I have a newbie question about Advance Parole if anyone who can help.

If AP is given is it a single or multiple re-entry.

Also, I noticed in the 1-131 form part 2.

a person can apply for Adance Parole outside the US

I thought that that is not allowed.

Does that mean that if you have a pending AOS ... some can leave the US and apply for this.

Advanced Parole is like a passport book and is given for a period of 2 years. Yes you can enter US as many times as you want on it within that period of time. You can apply for the advanced parole outside of US however you have to have it in hand to enter US meaning someone would have to send it to you.

I don't really see how the advanced parole documents can be described as a passport like book. A couple sheets of paper perhaps.

You also cannot "enter US as many times as you want". Some AP's are multi entry and some are not. The individual gets to specify which they want.

You also must have the AP documents in hand when leaving the US.

The I-131 form is used for a number of cases, of which one is Advance Parole. If an applicant for adjustment of status needs to travel outside the USA Advance Parole must be applied for while in the USA before departure from the USA. There are circumstances that permit application by way of form I-131 to be paroled into the USA, but that does not apply in your case. Those extenuating circumstances pertain to an alien that wishes to come to the USA for emergency (usually medical) reasons and cannot secure a visa. In that case the application would be made from outside the USA.

I read on this forum that it has to be APPROVED before you can leave the US, not just applied for. Does anybody know for sure 100%?

I talked to someone at USCIS and read their website concerning AP. It seems that you don't need to have the AP in hand when you leave the US, but it has to however be approved before leaving the US, so that the dates of travel and dates of approval are matching.. Then, you need it on the back to have the AP that you can have sent abroad.
Best is to call USCIS to have confirmation. Better have several same answers than only one...
