DS 230 part II question 33a asks if my fiance has ever had a S.S. # (she has one from working previously in the U.S.) and then asks if you would like the S.S Administration to send a new card.
She answered yes to that. Has anyone done this and how long did it take for the card to be sent? We are trying to get her a driver's license and NY requires the S.S card for new drivers.
We are also thinking about going to the S.S administration office but after checking their website it looks like my fiance doesn't have the right documents where they will issue her a new one, perhaps that is why the department of state asks if you would like a new one in the first place.
Has anyone had to go this route after arrival?
Thanks

I know what the form says, but remember reading somewhere on VJ that they will not automatically send a SSCard for K1 holders.
Which documents are missing? We got my hubby's SSN by applying at the office with his birth certificate, passport, and our marriage certificate. It took about 2 weeks. If you fiance knows her number and wants to keep it, I think she can just apply for a replacement card. They should already have a record of her so it might be doable.

Exactamundo. The question on the DS 230 does not apply to a K1. If she is in the SAVE system she will get her card as a K1. I guess they might re-issue under her original number but that would be up to the SSA. All she should need is the foreign passport with attached visa and I-94, at least that is what was required of us.
