Hello,

My wife has filed for AOS (from F1) and it is currently pending. She has gone for her biometrics. She applied for AP at the same time we submitted the other documents but we haven't received it yet and don't expect to for a while.

She has become ill and needs to travel to Japan to get treatment and care that are not available to her here. She wants to leave as soon as possible. We want to apply for an Emergency AP. I tried to make an infopass appointment but it is 2 weeks away. She cannot wait that long. I have read some stories of people walking into the local office to apply. If we do that do we need a doctor's letter to take with us? Do we need a letter from a doctor here or a doctor in Japan? Has anyone done this and been turned away when trying to get an emergency AP? Is it okay that we walk into the local office (NYC) even though we mailed everything to Chicago?

Does she need it when she leaves or just when she arrives? Is it possible for her to leave and I can just send her the AP document when it arrives?

One more little thing...
She had her biometrics done and the receipt we have from it says for I-485 (we did mail I-130, I-131, I-485 together). We need biometrics done for the I-131 AP we are going to apply now. Does she need to do biometrics again or was the one time enough?

Thank you for your help.

Please check my topic here. I posted how to get expedited AP.
I'm in Japan now with expedited AP.

You can try walk-in without InfoPass. I did that and was accepted. I can't guarantee, but it's worth to try.
Also, try to talk to USCIS operator. I recommend this way. If you have any questions, send message to me smile.gif . I'll share what I've experienced.

Good luck!

Thanks K&W. We went to the local office without an appointment. They were able to work everything out there. I took a lot longer (4 hours) than if we had an appointment but the important thing is we got it done.

Thanks.
