Hello. I am new to this site. I just found it and must say it has helped heaps. We have been a little lost with this whole process and more than a bit intimidated. I will do my timeline when I figure out how.

My main question now is that I am just about to finish my job as is my husband. I am in New Zealand with him and it appears this job doesn't count with NVC anyway. We have a sponsor who covers us with plenty of room to spare and my assests are not horrible either but far from the 5 X the povery level. I am just hoping that we will not have too many issues with the 864.

Any advice or has anyone been in this situation? We were just about to take off for a three month bike vacation but our i-130 was approved and life has been turned upside down! In a good but stressful way kicking.gif

It sounds like you are on the right track since you already have a joint sponsor lined up. You are correct, NVC would not consider your income from New Zealand unless you could show it would continue after moving to the US. Only a couple of reminders, but I'm sure you already got these too:
  1. The use of a joint sponsor does not eliminate the requirement that there be a signed Form I-864 from the petitioner with his or her most recent Federal tax return (or proof that there was no obligation to file).
  2. U.S. citizens generally have an obligation to file a tax return on non-U.S. earnings even if there was no tax liability.
Other than that I think you are good to go. Good luck! good.gif

Somebody is going to correct me if I'm wrong but if you are married I thought your assets only had to be 3x the poverty level. It used to be 5x but that was changed sometime ago at least for married applicants.

Yes, that's correct. It's 3X's when sponsoring the spouse of a USC.

I am feeling heaps better. Thaks everyone. I noticed that some people state that they paid their NVC fees online. I thought the only way to pay was with a bank check?
