Bring your passport to the Social Security Office, and there is a form you will fill up, or you can download it in the internet.

you might want to wait till the beginning of next week, so she'll be in the database.

It is advisable to wait for at least 2 weeks after the arrival before you apply for SSN to give the Dept. of Homeland and Security some time to save your POE record at their database. SSA will need that, otherwise they will make you come back till that record is available to them. You will need your passport with the I-94. Some states will require an original copy of birth certificate (they asked for mine when I applied for a number).
