Ok so me and my wife got a ssn card in her MAIDEN name, then got married in Jan of 07 on a k-1 visa. We Got her EAD card about a week ago with her MARRIED name on it and went to DMV to get her drivers permit/license and were told we needed to do a name change at the ssn office because her ead card and ssn card have different names on them.so we went to the local ssn office to have her name changed to her new married name. we had our marriage certificate, old ssn card, and new EAD card. They said they couldn't process the name change because it "wouldn't go through" but they didn't know why. they took photocopies of our documents and said they would try to process it but it might take months.what is going on? I don't know who to call or what the problem even is. they gave us a standerd looking letter that states basically they have to "verify our documents".
our AOS interview is in about 4 weeks. what should we do? My wife wants to be able to drive but this is crazy, and dmv wont help us. is this normal? has anyone else dealt with his?

When we get here green card are we going to get the same treatment at the ssn office?

Thank you in advance for any advice you may have, all help is very much appreciated.

Have to verify her status of having an EAD card. Good possibility when they tried to verify it the system still shows her as a K-1 and/or showing her maiden name. Have seen it when the AOS is pending the issuing of the EAD card doesn't update the system.

No one to call.

The next step after the initial verification is a secondary electronic verification. I would be sure that has been submitted and keep on them to check for the response. Now if that comes back asking to see a copy of her EAD card, then you might be looking at the months to get the name changed card issued.

I think this might have happened to a couple people. LOL

It's possible

I Quit,

Thanks for your response friend. it is really appreciated.

You said "be sure that has been submitted and keep on them to check for the response" does this mean my local social security office? stay on THEM to make sure they do the electronic authorization?

I know her EAD is legit and I think your right about it still showing her name in some system as as her maiden name, while her ead says the new name.

thanks again man
