Ever since my first trip to Ghana, I have been struck by the heart.gif bug luv.gif. I felt an overwhelming sense of belonging...Like I had been there before. When I left Ghana after my first trip, I developed a sense of "home sickness". I guess it was pretty easy for me because many parts of Ghana strongly resembles Jamaica (where my family is from)....Not to mention there is a strong love out there for Jamaica and its culture music!
But, strange enough Ghana has had the greatest impact on me, than any other place I have been, here or abroad. I say: "strange enough" because I knew Ghana is where I wanted to be almost immediately.

Many SO's have asked their USC SO's if they would ever consider moving to their home country....or they have simply made the statement that they would eventually like to return "back home" once they have made some sort of financial accomplishment, etc.... here in the US

....I guess I was a little strange in that, I told my SO when we were just getting to know each other, that I would LOVE to live in Ghana...he never had to ask me.

I can already envision my home and have ideas of what I would like to do when I am there. I think about it all the time!!! It makes me feel good, happy, and gives me something to work towards...

So, obviously my answer is YES YES YES yes.gif yes.gif yes.gif I would ABSOLUTELY love to live in my SO's home country...I feel like it already home to me wub.gif

What about you? How do you feel and why??? Don't forget to vote too! star_smile.gif
UNO...
regardless of my marital demise mellow.gif , I would consider part-time residency in ghana yes.gif .
I fell in love with the beach, the ambiance and the serenity of it all heart.gif .
I did not like the some of the attitudes I encountered ranting33va.gif , but attitudes are every where; here and abroad, so I just disregard the bad and soak up the good good.gif .
if I had my way idea9dv.gif , I'd spend half of the fall and all of the winters there,
with spring and summer in the good ol' u.s. of a dancin5hr.gif .
(gotta have the best of both worlds) goofy.gif .

We have talked about it. But we are more apt to move to Dubai...as opposed to Pakistan.
Zee Bee
Y'all already know that my family is from Ghana (except my sisters and parents) so going back is not something I have to think about. Its not something we think about because we know it is going to happen, whether its in 5 years ir 50.

Thanks for your responses!!!

yes.gif I lived one year in Russia already to be with my fiancée and to know her and her family properly. As long as we could have a normal life, I would happily move back for always. I chose a future wife not a country. yes.gif

It's no secret, anyone who has read my posts will tell you...yes I would move to Nova Scotia in a New York minute if I were legally able to bring my daughter with me. Until that time, we are here in the US. biggrin.gif

Nigeria isn't the most stable place but his village is such a wonderful place. We have plans for building there and on his property in Enugu. I have children here so splitting time makes more sense than moving full time. I don't fit in as naturally as I would like right away as his village is fairly remote and doesn't get visitors often.
Wacken
I have already lived there for a few years. I would go back in a minute if that were in the cards. In reality though, it is best to stick it out through naturalization. Only 23 months left before we can file. ClockWatch2.gif
CherryXS
As I was actually born there, and having observed how my parents lived there, I can picture myself there--but the picture is NOT one that makes the idea desirable.
Alex & Rachel
Alex says, 'yes! I would have no objections to that'. smile.gif

We were originally going to live in the UK anyway, but right now California is the better option for us both.

We are probably equally close to both of our families and wherever we chose to live we'd have been leaving behind close friends and a large supportive family, so we'd have been happy in either country, really.

My husband and I talk about moving back to Brazil pretty often, so I voted YES, but given financial stability. My plan is to go for my MA here and then search for a job in Brazil. In the meantime, my husband will improve his English and apply for citizenship.

We met while I was living in Brazil and I'd like to move back, but I want to know that I can give a good life to my future children.

We would live in the UK if it was financially possible...alas, we are not made of money...

But it could always happen in the future...

IN A HEART BEAT. I HAD PLANNED TO MOVE THERE AT THE END OF THIS MONTH IF MY WIFE DID NOT HAVE A VISA YET. NOW SHE HAS AN INTERVIEW SIX DAYS AFTER MY PLANNED DEPARTURE DATE!
WHAT TIMING, NOW WE WILL WAIT AND SEE!!!
IT IS PLANNED FOR IN THE FUTURE. AFTER THE DEALINGS W/ USCIS, I WAS READY TO LEAVE THE COUNTRY AND NEVER RETURN. THERE ARE OPPROTUNITIES AVAILABLE THAT MAY STILL BE TO GOOD TO PASS UP.

That is some real love!!! Sorry about your bad experience with the USCIS...This whole process can be so rough!

Absolutely. I love America, but I love Germany as much. And I love my SO more smile.gif He's giving up quite a lot to come here now. And when the time is right (with the kids) we'll go back to his country.

I lived in India for 21 years and loved it, but left unexpectedly (family illness), losing my long term visa. sad.gif Hubby and I want to return but feel it is best to wait till he gets US Citizenship (and for some reliable future income). Then we know we can both live there long term without visa hassles. yes.gif
Cassie
It's no secret that my hubby loves where I came from, and our ultimate goal is to both have dual citizenship and have the freedom to be in either country whenever we want.
przy
My husband hopes that there will be better opportunties for his work here, so we are going to give it a try in the United States. We have decided that if things don't work out, we will return back to Germany. I have absolutely no problem there, or here. As long as I am with my spouse, everything else will just follow. smile.gif

And you, Asante? Are you the USC? I think by now I should know this from reading your posts, sorry! Ghana is one of the countries on my list to go to before I die.
Dassie
I moved to the US to be with my hubs. Never regretted it although the initial adjustment was pretty difficult for me. We have never considered my country of origin, South Africa, as a possibility for us to live.

Like you...I was going to live in my SO's country if he did not get his visa by a deadline that we set.
Luckily for us though, everything went smoothly and my husband is happy here. He was apprehensive in the beginning though, as he had never been outside of Brazil, so I asked that he try it here for a year and if he didn't like it - we could move back to Brazil. I lived in his country for a year and told him I thought it was fair. He agreed.
rkl57
I've done it before and would do it again. And we have also lived in a third country.
Jabberwocky
Being that we have young children, I cannot see moving to the Philippines as serving their best interests. America has far more to offer than the Philippines (no offense). America, with all its warts, is still one of the best places to live and raise a family, IMO. GO AMERICA! F##K YEAH!

Yes. I'm the USC.

You should definitely realize your goal of going to Ghana. It is truly a wonderful experience.

If I had been asked before I met John I would have wanted to raise children in Australia.

But John as the USC has commitments to the farm as well as a deep love for it which means this is not even a choice.

We are definately planning to move to Liberia once we graduate from college and get settled with our careers. Also, we are trying to wait for more rebuilding to take place before we move there longterm. Healthcare and education there isn't the greatest so those are other factors that are playing into our decision. For now, we are just planning to make several visits per year.

Hehe...one reason I don't want to live in India is it's too hot, AND---any country where the birthday boy or girl has to pay to take everyone else out to eat is not a country I'd want to live in! laughing.gif Yes in India, you'd like to hide your birthday so you don't have everyone saying "so where are you taking us out for YOUR birthday?". And that's not the worst of the temps.

In Chennai, I've seen daytime temps of 107--and in inland non-altitude cities (such as Madurai, Nagpur or Hyderabad) you can get may temps of 113.

My husband is from the Amazon and the temperature is not what kills you, it's the humidity!!!! You sweat after walking down the block. I used to take 3-4 showers a day to cool myself off, and it's not just because I'm a gringa...that's common. We had a shower at work!

My OH is in the USAF so he would only come to the UK if he was posted here. That's unlikely though as he has already had one posting here already. I don't think he is really keen on the Uk, mainly due to the weather. He loves all the history though and maybe when he retires we could come back to the UK for a bit.

I was in New Delhi when it was around 89-90 degrees and there wasn't hardly any humidity there so it was very tolerable...but that was in October. I know in the summer they get over 100 too.

"What would people say?"

In India, the opinions of the rest of "the village" matters much more than it should. People bankrupt themselves in the delusion that their actions will keep "the village" from talking smack. It never works.
