All reports I've seen is that they're quite speedy once you've returned everything they need, like a matter of a couple weeks or weeks to I-130 approval not months.

We were in the same boat- we received an RFE from the London embassy last month. We mailed the affidavits and a packet of evidence to them and they got back to us really quickly- I think it took about a week.
Don't be worried about getting the RFE- from what I've read it seems as though the London consulate gives out contradictory instructions- it says in the checklist not to include anything but what is on the list- no proof of relationship etc. So we follow the rules and don't and then we get an RFE. Then later I read somewhere else that you should include that. So frustrating!
Anyways good luck and don't worry! We're just waiting to hear from them about when our appointment will be so fingers crossed!

i think they turned around ours in a little over a week. But they have been slightly slower recently from what I can tell. Definately closer to 2 weeks than a month though.

They only asked for affidavits but no supporting evidence, should I send some anyway? Like photos, council tax bill, bank statement etc?

for my RFE I included any documentary evidence that I had, that would back up statements I made in the Affidavit
for eg:
we've lived together for 3 years - included copy of our lease
trip we took together - included flight confirmations
etc etc.

From the time we mailed in our affadavits and additional evidence, on June 16, till we received the approval, on July 2, it was about 3 weeks.
Good luck!
