Hello,

I'm trying to help my wife write up a US-style resume, and I'm having some trouble figuring out what should be said in the OBJECTIVE part at the beginning, and where/how it is appropriate to mention that she has a green card. As for the objective, she has something like:

Position in accounting and finance where I can use my skills and experience to start my work experience in the USA.

It is okay to come out and say that she is looking to get a start here? Is there a better way to word this? Also, where/how should she mention that she has a green card in the resume, or can she just leave that out altogether since she would have to have some sort of work authorization to work in the first place?

Thanks for everyones' help! smile.gif yes.gif smile.gif

Resume objective are old news. No need for it now. They know why you want a job in the field you desire.

Green card... When I write my wifes up I will not even mention it. Why give them a reason to dump the resume in the circular file before they even call her?

Fact of the matter is... resumes will get you a call.... if you get a preliminary interview out of the call then you may get a final consideration interview. Then you may get a call saying you did or did not get the job. That's how things go. Knowing that base your pla of attack from there.

Good luck!

I got good invice on "Objective" at the local career center: If you are applying for a specific job opening, just list the exact position title you are applying for.

This will make the job of HR easier when they match resumes to jobs they have open. It makes sense, since a typical HR department would be filling multiple jobs at a time, and they easier you make their job the better for you.

yes I always changed my objective depending on the position I was applying for

The Objective is very importan! It's a way to expleain to all the employers what u want to accomplish and what they are getting from u.

I will change depend on company's size.

I helped my husband write up his resume for the US and since all his work experience was out of the US, I put this line: I am authorized to work in this country for any employer

In my qualifications summary, I included the following: "Permanent Resident of the United States as of XXXXX" at the very end. It helps to explain the gap in my resume between entering the US and looking for work now, that I am here for the long haul, and why all my work experience is Canadian.
