Hello again,
Just when I think I figured it out, another question appear.

Just a short introduction before I ask. My hubby and I found a joint sponsor (hubby's step dad) and we are going to live in his house after we arrive (if the visa gets approved, of course). We do not understand how to calculate household size, and although I have some idea, I wish someone could confirm if I am right or not.

1. So...husband's mom and step dad live in the same house. Mom is unemployed, step dad earns way over the poverty line. That makes it 2. Together with an intending immigrant, there will be 3 persons. Now the question is, if my husband is going to live there too, shouldn't it be a household of 4? If it is, where they should put him (question no. 21 - d or e or something else)?

Now...when my husband is filling I-864, he is going to count me and himself, which will make 2, but does he have to indicate somewhere that his step dad and mom are living in the same house too?

Can it be that the household size for joint sponsor is 3 in I-864, and for my husband who is a petitioning sponsor, it is 2?

2. About question number 23, the sum they have to enter is line 22 of 1040? That means it is the gross income before the tax, right?

I am sorry if I am being repetative again, but it is so hard to find specific info, especially if you are so nervous about everything.

Hello there! smile.gif For your dad's I-864, the household size is 3 as long as he has no dependents. It doesn't matter that your husband will be living there when you guys move over - he's an independent adult, and his dad's income doesn't have to cover him.

For your husband's I-864, it's a household of 2. So... you were right about both already. smile.gif

The rule is that the household number is the person sponsoring, the intending immigrant, any dependents (no matter where they live), spouse if there is one, and anyone living in the house who wants to add their income to the total pot.

Yes, the income that should be entered is the gross income before taxes. I can't remember if that's line 22 or not, but that sounds right! smile.gif
