My conversation with DOS today confirmed what I have suspected for a while from all my research.

1. My SO is undergoing checks by multiple agencies, checks which were requested after the first time he was notified his visa was ready and when he went to get it, oh we have to do more checks.

2. They send the security checks out one at a time. First the FBI, when that is cleared then outside agency A, when that is cleared then it is sent to outside agency B, when cleared then outside agency C, etc.

3. He has been cleared by the FBI multiple times but because the clearances keep expiring while they are waiting for the other agencies he is now in his third or more FBI check.

4. If the clearance from agency A expires while they are waiting on agency C, then agency A has to conduct another check on him.

If it takes each agency 3 months to clear him and there are five agencies this is a minimum of a 15 month wait the way it is currently it being done instead of a 3 month wait if it was sent to all the agencies at the same time.

So hello US Government, why not send the case to all the agencies at one time and let it be finished quickly instead of one at a time and having multiple agencies have to clear him multiple times. Wouldn't this save everyone lots of time and money?

My taxpayer dollars hard at work again. blink.gif

The good news was per DOS there is only one agency that has never cleared him, so when it is complete, maybe just maybe he will get his visa (unless one of the other clearances is expired).

I'm so sorry this is happening. Keep at it. Keep going higher in the chain. This length of wait is inordinate.

OH-MY-GOD...

You have got to be kidding me! How can that be? That each agency has to take a turn at processing a clearance. Yes, it does seem STUPID that all the agencies can not run their checking processes concurrently with each other.

I can't see the rationale for doing it one, by one, by one...

I never had such a wellspring of animosity for the US government until I came accross this AP business. I could accept the bureaucracy of the NVC plodding along at snails pace. At least you knew there was progress, albeit, in minute increments. But this a$$backwards logic for AP processing is infuriating!!!!
