As I always suggest, try priceline.com and travelocity.com. I sure do a lot of airfare research, and they both provide a list of comparisons from all the major airlines starting lowest to highest price. When I have proceeded from both of those sites and visited other airfare sights, they all had the same flights, times, dates I requested, but the prices were considerably less. And between the two, priceline is usually a few dollars cheaper than travelocity. They also allow you to apply any frequent flyer credits you may have.

When my fiance came here, we used Continental Airlines. They were so helpful and easy to purchase a ticket originating from Nigeria. Not all the cheap sites will allow you to purchase a flight originating abroad. I even paid for the ticket here in the US at a Western Union location. They hold the online reservation for 24 hours until you go pay for it. After that, I just gave my fiance the confirmation number and he printed out his itinerary from Nigeria. It was very seamless. The ticket cost $1100. He took a KLM flight to Holland then Continental to New York/New Jersey. I consider them my best kept secret and will use them everytime!!!
