because I am stubborn and have a hard time waiting for things to happen I have called chennai embassy twice (last week and again tonight). last week the operator couldnt (or wouldnt give any indication of time frame for AP). tonight the operator again read from the computer "Administrative Prcessing" so I asked how much longer can we expect this to last? She said another week to 10 days ohmy.gif (could this be real?). at this point I told her I didnt know if the information I had given last week about my having major surgery had gotten to the officer in charge of our case. she asked if I had sent an email to the consulate (she was very sympothetic) becasue this was very important and told me to send an email right then explaining the situation.

What kind of information do they have on the computers and could she really know something?

I hope its true.

The best thing you have going for you is the fact that you are/will go through major surgery. Otherwise DOS tells me the embassy will call soon...so what is soon I still do not know.
But I think if you were able to get the attention of the visa chief, at Chennai that could help your case move faster. Wait these ten days and if you do not hear anything, tell DOS to do an inquiry then get the contact info of the visa chief at the embassy and see what they can do.

I really do hope that something will happen by the end of the 10 days!

Keep your faith strong, God will not fail you.

It seems like they are overly optimistic when giving timelines. I had called the DOS on Valentine's day and the visa operator had told me "a couple more days".
...
One month later, my husband was cleared from AP.

So, take it with a grain of salt. It's nice they said 10 days, at least they are telling you something!

Dear Indian Heart:

From my own experience and seeing the experience of others here on VJ, you can't take the Embassy seriously when they give a time frame. They will say whatever they want. Additionally, I don't think the Embassy has any control over how long the seperate agencies like the FBI/CIA take to process the security checks.

I have lived in India off and on for the past 12 years and have dealt with the US Embassy there on many occasions.

Be happy that you at least didn't get rude treatment.

Tina
