OK if my friend is from El Salvador and we want to get him a travel permit using the I-131 what does he qualify under? I am so confused on that form. Can he only travel in emergencies or can he just go on a vacation?

How is your friend from El Salvadore in the USA?

I-131 is for K-1s adjusting status to travel before getting green-card, or persons here on other visa types that are not multi entry.

K-3 does not need I-131 filed.

I-131 is also used for persons living in the USA that have a green-card, for trips longer than 1 year but less than 2.

He is here on TPS. I know he can get it cause my cousin got it, but I am just not sure how and they used a lawyer. I don't want to have to pay for a lawyer.
