I got cash as a wedding gift from back home in the UK. It is an Abbey National check, and I'm just wondering how I would go about cashing it.

The bank we are currently with is not an international bank, so I doubt they could cash it.

Do a search in your town. My ex found a bank that will honour a cheque drawn on a UK bank. There are places out there that will do it, but you will have to probably open an account.

I too am interested in this as I am moving to the USA this Saturday and I am from England too wink.gif

How did you guys transfer your money from your UK bank account to your American one? Which bank do you use as well?

I didn't do it that way. I thought it would be easier to withdraw all my money from my UK bank and change into dollars. Most of it was in travellers cheques, so I just took it on the plane in my hand luggage and it was easy to put into the US bank account.

Although a couple of my mum's friends (bless them) can't make it to our UK reception but made out a check to Jeremy for £15... lovely sentiment but if they had made it out to me I could have put it in my account >< laughing.gif I don't have the heart to tell them smile.gif

I would ask them to change the name on it and initial it so that they don't have to write a whole new check out. I'm sure they won't mind. smile.gif
