EMWAK
My husband entered on a K-1 in April, we submitted his AOS along with the I-765 on May 18. He has a job offer and they want him to start working July 14. Unfortunately his EAD stamp he got at the border in JFK expires on July 18. Is there any way to expedite the work authorization....money wise wink wink or otherwise ...I can not believe it is set up so that there is a consistent gap between work authorizations!! Please help.

All you can try is info-pass appointment to field office and see if they can help.

I like to say:

K-1 is not a work visa, it is a fiancee visa for entry to the USA and marriage, K-1 is "Work Auth" primarily to be able to get the SSN, some states are strict in their interpretation of a federal law that requires persons applying for a "license" to have SSN, this can cause a problem with marriage license if only one person has SSN and the other (the K-1 holder) does not.

I feel your pain, and I called them today to ask for the same thing and they said it is possible but usually requires faxing in evidence. In your case i guess evidence would be the offer letter and demonstrated financial need for him to start his job ASAP. Something severe like losing your home without it kinda thing.

They don't do it just because we want it sooner. In my case, I'm submitting proof that i already hold the job and have 4 very expensive projects going for my company that cannot just stop out of nowhere. I am on day 4 and expect a decision tomorrow, usually day 5 is the time.

I'm not optimistic about it because I have no faith in them whatsoever. I expect to be fired and re-hired when the new EAD arrives, late!
