Yasser, now that you have received your NOA1, you can go to www.uscis.gov and register there to send instant notifications to your e-mail address and check case status online. When you will be there, they will ask you to register. Once registered, you'll be taken to a page which will say 'your Portfolio'. You will need to add the receipt number there and your current I130 case will be added to your portfolio. On that chart below, you will find a date under Last Updated and this will be the date when the service center will take your file out or look into it. These are known as Touches. The change in the date there would mean someone at the service center has been going through your file.

hope this helps.

When you file your petitions your documents are put into a file with an attached bar code. Everywhere your file goes the bar code is scanned and this shows up as a touch on your portfolio. They scan the bar code to keep track of where your file is at all times. A touch could be them filing your file in a stack of folders awaiting adjudication or someone picking up your file to process it. Most files are touched many times before approval. Since you just filed the touch that you got was maybe them putting your info into a folder and them filing it in the waiting piles. Any other questions just let me know.... good luck.

Yes these 'touches' have such an effect....some do nothing but wait for these dates to change...sadly I am one of them.

My official "cut & paste" answer regarding "touching"...

"Touching" is meaningless and no big deal. Some petitions get 'touched" and others never do. It only indicates someone had your petition in their hands and scanned it into on the database. Other than proving your petition is not in the trash, it is nothing to get excited over. What truly counts are NOAs (yeah!) and RFEs (Boo!) smile.gif
