My husband received his EAD card in the mail yesterday. We will be going to the Social Security office today to apply for his SSN.
I have scanned the EAD document front and back (and edited to remove personal information) so everyone can see what they will be or have already received.

Do you have to wait until you receive your SSN before you start working? He has a job already lined up that he can start if he does not need to wait.

When you apply for the SSN at your local office you should get a letter stating that this has been applied for. This is good enough to start work and just give the employer the SSN when it arrvies.

Congrats about the EAD. Just to let you know that if you go to the Social Security office today I doubt your immigration status will be in the system yet. The same thing happened to me, I got my EAD and the next day rushed down to my local office. They will ask you to come back in about ten days to try again or if you dont mind waiting 6-8 weeks for the SSN you can get them to manually verify the information.

Just an update:

Ladybutterfly was absolutely right, they checked and he was not in the system (SAVE) yet. They said they have to do an inquiry if we decided to proceded, which would take about 2 months. Otherwise we could wait, call back and check and when he is entered into the system go back and apply again. We are going to wait, will take a whole lot less time. I will just be calling every day. They said they do not give the letter unless you have applied. So I will check with his potential employer and see if they can start him without a Social.

I know being married to Mickey has its ups and downs. Especially with all this immigration stuff. Before I met Mickey I would have never guessed how much trouble falling in love with an alien would be. Guess I was lucky that he fell in love as well, I mean Minnie kept him on a pretty tight leash. Speaking of leash, she got custody of Pluto and Goofy only gets to visit on occasion, we live so far away it is hard for him to get away. Also I am sorry to say, but Mickey does not get any free tickets to Magic Kingdom.

By the way the EAD was "touched" again on Saturday May 13th on the USCIS system. What do you think that means?

they probably sent you another approval notice or something. Sometimes they like to do that!! Don't ask me why.
