I'm surprised that no one has made a post about Journey's new lead singer Arnel Pineda. He is a Filipino who was discovered on youtube.com by the founder and musician in the band.

Wow... Unbelievable! Outstanding! I have always liked (and I still do) Journey. I even downloaded their songs to my iPod. I didn't know that their new front vocalist is a Filipino. He sounded just like Steve Perry, maybe even better than him. Things like this make me proud to be a Philippine citizen. Despite all the negativity and the government being a big joke, there are still people there who will try to raise our morale and dignity us Filipinos.

I was even waiting and bought their new CD on the exact day it was release on June 3 (plug he he)

The CD btw is awesome. Three disc in there for only $11 at Walmart.

The first CD is compose of 11 brand new songs.

The second is a re-recorded versions (with Arnel) of Journey's greatest hits.

The 3rd is a DVD of their concert in Las Vegas!!

Awesome bargain for any Journey fans. Go buy it!!

We're not from the Philippines but I want to chime in that that Arnel has such an amazing crystal clear voice when he sings!

Earlier this year, my hubby sent me this video of him performing with his cover band, The Zoo. Then I googled some of his other songs and he did a pretty good Sting, too.

What an amazing singer! He doesn't seem to be caught in his own fame, either. Just enjoys what he's good at.

my husband sooo love the journey and now he loves it more because of Arnel he said we will definitely watch their concert if ever there will be in Indy or here in Phil. He also said that Arnel is now famous in the US because he is really good.

If any of you has ever been to Cowboy Grill or any lounge with live bands, their performers are always good. I feel like I have seen this guy before playing in one of those bars.

Thats nice. I love it when you see somebody when they're not famous yet. Coz you get to see them way up close.

From this point on, Arnel is probably going to be playing on big venues and you'd only see his face on big screens.

Journey is considering an Asian Tour in November. hopefully Arnel will be able to perform in Manila as a member of Journey.

This guy got a great talent. What I like most about him is that, despite of his right now, he keeps his feet on the ground and is always proud that he is Filipino. Great, talented, humble guy. Proud of him

I saw one of his videos on YouTube and when he was asked about his Mom, he was in tears... Now that's a true Filipino... sentimental and really emotional. Who said boys don't cry? Crying shows the soft side of a person... and I like that.

And all of your points are... Well, think of it this way, their light would still be a distant memory of great classics. However, with their new lead (who is very talented by the way), Journey has a chance to expand their legend and create new ones. Although I do not know the complete story, I suggest writing complaint letters to Mr. Perry who will not even speak to his ex-band members except through his lawyers, which is how the search and discover of their new front man came to pass.

You both seem like haters to me, but I could be misreading your points of view.

Father's Day 2009? 2008's was last week!

Somebody had mentioned this new singer for Journey at work, so I had a lot of skepticism. For sure, there will never be another Steve Perry (hope he's okay wherever is), but that video of Arnel made me cry. Bless him and his success. His humble beginnings and what he's been through in life shows in the soul he puts in his singing. I hope the older Journey fans will embrace him.

What a great story. This guy is good. We're listening to their new CD right now and I just picked up tickets for their show here in Denver which kicks off their US Tour. Looking forward to Cheap Trick too, though I'm not a real big fan of Heart but ako misis likes them.

I am an old Journey fan, and I really think this is awesome! Great story, great voice, and frankly if you are just listening and don't know, Arnel does the old songs justice.

Hope Steve Perry is doing well, where ever his head is at, who knows.

If I'm not mistaken, he had some kind of vocal problems and had to have some surgery done.

Sounds like they just got someone who can imitate Steve Perry. That's the only reason they'll be getting some concert dates and people paying big money to see them. The other bands of my youth, lost their lead singers, sound crappy, and play venues like Casino's now. Kind of annoys me though that they picked up this guy, on his ability to "imitate". Wonder what he sounds like for "real"?

On March 30th 2008 former member's of Journey's Management Team revealed that Steve Perry had recently played them demos of new material and that his voice was as good as ever. It was further added that at this time there were no plans to "put new material out".

People are paying big bucks to see them? I guess if $26 each is big bucks you're correct since that's what the general admission tickets cost us here in Denver. If you really want to hear what he sounds like for "real" whatever that means why don't pick up their new CD set which also includes a DVD of them live in concert. He's a "real" guy with a "real" great voice.

Yes, it seems to me that you are reading way too much into a comment. The poster before me said they like Journey even before Steven Perry and I said Steven Perry made what I'll always remember to be Journey. For some people it doesn't matter who sings the songs or plays the instruments, as long as the songs sound good, but when the songs are the backdrop to a certain time in your life, those artists are what made the music important and special to you at that time and will always be what you remember....someone else just isn't the same. Kinda like David Lee Roth will always be Van Halen to me, and Slash will always be Guns n Roses. I don't want to see the "new and improved" bands, ya know?

YOU are the one who seems to be blowing it out of proportion, suggesting we write complaint letters and saying we are haters. I'm perfectly happy with the memories I have of Journey, years ago, and the music they did at that time and am not bitter or upset about Steven and the band going their separate ways. These things happen in the music industry all the time. If they want to continue their career with this chap, or Santa Claus, good for them...I wish them all the luck, success, and fame a new crop of people can bring them.
