Hi all, this is a bit off topic but wondering if there's anyone on here that works for USPS? Or knows exactly how the US mail system works? My husband mailed me, via registered mail, the I-134's last week along with his income tax return (self-employed as well as regular job) pay stubs and letters from banks. He wouldn't have waited so long but his bank took 3 weeks to get a letter to him regarding his deposits, etc for the last year (WaMu and in the end, wasn't exactly what he asked for!) He mailed them registered with USPS and I still haven't received them yet, which I should have 2 days ago for sure! Any time I mail him anything, CanadaPost tells me 7 to 10 days and everything has always reached him within 5 days. We have a tracking number but the last detail says "left Los Angeles on June 7"....no one seems to give a crap when he calls...(typical customer service these days!) We don't even know if they'll ask us for the I-134's as they're not asked for on the checklist but you have to have them just in case they do. That's all I don't have at the moment for our interview on Monday...thinking that if I don't get them, I would tell the Consulate officer this & forward the doc's when/IF I DO get them...who knows when that would be!
1) Does anyone know if there's anything else we can do or is it out of our hands?
2) Has anyone NOT been asked for the I-134?
3) Since it's not "required", would it be a big deal to ask this of them without a denial? I have absolutely everything they've asked for & ready to hand over all of it...

Btw, we didn't go with DHL, FedEx or any other courier due to problems we had with a courier company previously...

They will ask for it at the interview....worst case scenario, if you don't get it in time for the interview, you will get an approval pending that document. You'll simply mail in the document when you have it and your visa will be approved and mailed to you.

Nothing is impossible.

I had a similar problem with USPS last January when I was trying to get my passport renewed. I had sent off my application, copies of my documentation and my photographs to my Dad in Canada who was my guarantor. He sent it back by certified mail. When I didn't receive it after a week, I tracked it to the US border- and there it disappeared! Someone in USPS hadn't bothered to record what happened to it after its arrival at the border and no one knew where it was! I ended up having to get another application, retake photographs, get a new US guarantor, notify the Passport Office that passport specific personal information was lost, possibly stolen and put credit tracers on my accounts to protect myself from identity theft since copies of my DL, SSN and my military card were in the package. It was a nightmare! 3 weeks after it crossed the US border, USPS delivered the package unharmed and unopened.

I suspect that your package is somewhere in the USPS system and will be delivered eventually. Whether or not it will make it by the interview I don't know. Unfortunately, other than harassing USPS there isn't much else that you can do. The best advice I have if it doesn't arrive is to go to the interview and explain that the items were mailed by certified mail but still haven't arrived. They will be able to interview you but not be able to approve you until after you send in the missing documents. They will give you an opportunity to submit them when you receive them, and once they get them, they will be able to approve your application and issue the visa. Unfortunately, the I-134 is a required document so they won't overlook it.

I hope that they arrive in time.

Thank you Kathryn...actually the I-134 ISN'T required, they say to have it ready, in case they ask for it. It is NOT on the checklist. What you said is what I told Jim...he will email me the doc's he does have, ie: letter from employer stating his income, 2 pay stubs, copy of I-134's (one for myself and one for my son), what we are unable to have are copies of are his income tax & bank statements. I should've known better than to tell him not to bother with copies as I would make them when I received them! So much for planning on heading "home" the following week!

I beg to differ but it is definately required.

I-134 may not be required at your embassy but sures is/was at mine!

Fiancé(e)s (K-1), spouses (K-3), returning residents (SB-1) and follow-to-join employment (E) applicants use the I-134 Affidavit of Support form. This form must be executed less than one year prior to the visa application. A copy of the sponsor’s most recent Federal income tax returns and evidence of current employment must accompany the I-134.

As per the DOS website (http://travel.state.gov/visa/laws/telegrams/telegrams_1399.html):

Processing/Issuing K3 Visas
---------------------------

23. Standard IV processing is followed, including NCIC namechecks, police certificates, pertinent birth/marriage/divorce/death certificates, standard IV medical exam minus the vaccination requirement, and relationship bonafides, Ref E, 18-25. Unlike K1s and K2s, the IV system will not yet accept K3 as a visa class, and so the systems processing takes place exclusively in NIV. K3s must be issued in the country where the marriage took place, unless there is no IV or NIV issuing post in the country, see Ref E, 15-17. Applicants fill out two copies of the DS-156 NIV application form; they are not required to submit the new DS-157 form. Note that neither an I-864 or an I-134 is required; K3 applicants must present the I-864 when they adjust status in the United States with USCIS. Posts should not routinely require an I-134, except in those cases where the consular officer deems it necessary to overcome any public charge considerations that might arise from documents presented or the interview

Thanks everyone....usps.com was down so I tried entering the tracking number again thru canadapost.com and sure enough, it's sitting at Customs in Vancouver at 5:55pm! I'm gonna try to have the package redirected to the Consulate! ugh! what a pain in the...
