I called the NVC today and the automated voice told me that my case was completed at NVC on June 11 (yesterday). I'm glad our visa journey is coming to its conclusion. I tried many times to get the live operator, was unsuccessful. May be they have an interview date for us already. I'm going to prepare the documents for my wife's interview. It will be at the US Consulate in HOCHIMINH CITY. IR1/CR1 people who have gone or are going to the HCM consulate for interview, please show me some tips on the preparation of documents for the interview. Much appreciate your help.

As for preparing for the interview:

I'm getting ready to send my wife everything that might be important, plane ticket stubs, a color copy of my driver's license, and anything that might be important to our relationship... I spent a whole bunch of time today putting together copies of my old and new passport (with some color copies for the visa stamps that I went to Vietnam with). I plan to do a timeline of our relationship.

Oh, make sure you start quizzing each other on the dates and all that stuff about your relationship. They will certainly ask and you want her to be ready. Read everything you have sent off to the NVC and make sure the dates and numbers match up with your wife's answers. That's a stressful day and she might say the wrong date or something.

I'm having my wife go to Ho Chi Minh City next week to check out the embassy, etc., so that she doesn't get nervous and knows where everything is on the day of the showdown.

Lastly, I'm telling my wife to send everything by mail before the flight and forget about luggage for the plane, aside from a carry-on. My thinking is that luggage will just add to the stress of getting through immigration after arriving, not to mention checking things in to catch the transfer flight.

GOOD LUCK!

Hi, Duke. Thanks for the tips. You have the date of the showdown yet?
I heard some people on this site stated that the Consulate sometimes asks for proof of purchasing flight tickets (meaning bank statements or card statements which show that you actually spent your money on the tickets). I did save the boarding passses on every flight, but not THE MONEY!
Does mailing the stuff cost lots of money? Which carrier did you choose? You're right 'bout the stress associates with the luggage. My question is at what cost can you ease such stress?
Thanks again, Duke. Good luck to you, too.

Just my opinion, of course, but I think a copy of the passport with a color photo of the visa(s) used to enter Vietnam and the ticket stubs, etc., would be enough.

You can send stuff by boat, which can takes several months, but it's not too pricey. I'm also going to try to get my wife a map of whichever airport so she at least knows where she needs to go... I'm playing this one by ear!

They have asked a few people for these even thought they provided everything else.

You may also want to compile a timeline of your relationship and have it notarized. They have also been asking for these on occasion.

Good luck.

Thanks, Mark. I will definitely try that, but I'm not sure how far back the airlines keep their sale records. My first trip was in 2003, second was 2004, third was 2005, and fourth was in 2007.
Thanks again, good luck to you too.
