I do realise its not the right forum to post my question, but as i noticed a lot of "veterans" her i will try....

I'm going to the States in a couple of days. The first document i want to get is the SSN - without it i cant even get a state ID...How do i do that? as far as i got it, they are supposed to contact me during the first 3 weeks from my arrival...but i dont count on the SSN office to be honest....and i dont want to wait for 3 weeks....can i call them on my arrival???

many thanks in advance

The DS-230 Part II question about SSN is not suppose to be for K-1's.... After about 2 weeks go your local SSA office and apply!

Ok, I see...and how long do I have to wait for it?

Until they send it to you...

They will say 2-4 weeks (assuming all verifications can be done)... It might be sooner it might be later

..Oh, so let me count, i need to wait for 2 weeks BEFORE i even apply for the SSN , plus i need to wait for about 2 weeks to get it. Without it i cant get work, so even if i get an EAD stamp upon arrival, i cant work, right? agrrrrrr.....

We waited about 3 weeks and then went down to the Social Security office and put the application in for Natasha (K-2 visas are ineligible for SSN until they receive EAD - and this is regardless of age!). She received her SSN card in the mail about 10 days later. After we received our certified copy of our marriage license (about 4 days after the wedding), we went back to the Social Security office and applied for her name change. We received her new card about 7 days later.
