Happy Hump day to all!! Peace to all.
I need to share my situation and ask for words of wisdom. My husband, like many on here, has been anxious to work. Yesterday he started at a restaurant (where I have done the bookkeeping (in addition to my regular job) for a while and they just reopened under a new name and theme) as a dishwasher and cook. It was a long day/night and he came home at 2am to tell me he didn't want to continue the job.
I think there is more pressure than he is used to. He is a very hard worker, but doesn't like someone watching him (even when I ask him to repair things around our home he does better if I am not watching). And when he was doing the limited cooking, he wasn't very quick and felt the pressure of the customers waiting for their food. PLUS he doesn't speak much English and although the manager also speaks some Spanish (his language) she was stressed also and my husband felt their communication fell down.
I couldn't believe he was telling me (at 2am) he didn't want to do it - after one day. I told him he had to go in today, as scheduled, and talk to the manager. I also reminded him that he may not find another job for 6 mths or more and then how would he feel? This was also an opportunity to work on his English. I am also annoyed if he leaves because the manager gave him a chance because of my relationship with the restaurant. I would like to stop my work there, but I basically agreed to continue because they were helping him.
I hope today goes better for him.
Thanks for listening. Any words of wisdom?

Do you have a career center of some kind in your area? You'd find the link by searching the unemployment website in your area. That has really helped my husband a lot. Granted he hasn't landed a job yet but he has only been able to start looking for about two weeks now so although he's anxious he's not too frustrated yet. Anyways they have great services like preparing for interviews, etc. and also the one in our area has various companies come in from time to time to interview people. At least it is something to do when you're bored if all else fails. Other than that I suggest networking like crazy getting names/ numbers at the local mosque, etc. Good luck!

UGH I'm still packing and moving our stuff into storage!
I'm getting aggrivated with our van too.... we've had it for like two months now and STILL haven't gotten our tag and title. Today I went to pick it up from the dealer because he told me he got it (for the 50th time) and to have the AC fixed but when I got there he said the AC has freon so it must have a short somewhere since it still doesn't work and he STILL doesn't have the tag!!! He said he lost the title and he's been trying to get it replace... why would he sell it before he got that worked out???? So if he doesn't have it by next week he said he'll buy it back from us and we can buy another one.... sigh..... I don't want to go thru all that so I really hope he gets the tag and fixes the AC so we can just be done with it already.
It's hot here! I wanna go swimming!!
OK, I'm off to get back to packing!

Oh yeah and my baby will be back on Tuesday inshallah

I can't wait! I feel like we're back again to waiting on the visa!!!

My new Homedics scale just came from UPS ! I won it from a work thing. Free stuff is the best! So, now I have to put in a battery and see how much I weigh. I'm kinda nervous as I have noooooooooooo clue what the number is gonna be. This scale has: body fat %, body water %, muscle mass, bone mass and daily calorie predictor :| All I really want is to see the number.

Mohammed,
Have you had anyone look at your resume? Make sure it is more American style and no spelling, grammar errors, etc. Maybe a functional style is better for you.
The career center idea of Bridget's could help with that. Would volunteering anywhere get you in contact with more possible employers?
Not to be harsh - as an employer I would be annoyed you are only legal to work for a month. That is at least the time it takes people to get up to speed at a specific company.
Good Luck!

You asked, and, yes, it's us:

Actually my min-pin is pretty tall compared to most (by about 2 inches), and is in "perfect" body-weight. Most get really fat. :S
Also, a comparison between a min-pin and a doberman (which it looks like, but isn't fully related to... in fact, we walked by one today, and my dog was going nuts! haha)

(by the way the Min-Pin in the above picture is ugly. I don't understand why some people cut their ears)
Oops, neglected to say ...

Actually Dobermans are the most sweetest and loveliest dogs anyone could get, even if they seem to have a "bad image"
I have considered getting a Doberman to be a buddy for my min-pin, but will wait until my honey gets her (he also likes the idea too.. but wants to take the responsibility to train it... which sounds good to me!)
Min-Pins are fun pets. Very intelligent, but also mischievous. Haha. They're also escape artists. He knows sign language commands.
My friend, and occasional dog sitter, is a foster mom for min-pins, as part of a nation wide rescue organization. If you and your hubby are interested, I can PM the web link.

nagi, i'd think it's real simple. tell him either he trims it or you do. and you can since it's overhanging on your property. usually that's enough to motivate the most lazy homeowner to get it done for fear the other party would do a chop job on it.

Well, I dont know him, and Im not gonna knock on his door cos I don't know what he is packing. I never see this tard and he mows his back yard maybe twice a year. The problem is, the tree is HUGE, it is up against the fence in HIS yard, and it is ruining my fence. The branches are so high and I don't have a ladder or a chain saw. This part of his yard is considered the' easement ' and it is city property, technically.

Charles, one year I did drill it and the bit broke off inside the tree! Then I poured turpentine on the holes I made. It would not die! I hacked it with a machete and peeled the bark off and watched it's gaping wounds heal.

Well, I didn't get much packed today :sigh: I stopped by my friends shop on the way to the storage place to see about getting her to make me some floor length khimars out of a thin polyester material and ended up staying there for a long time. She didn't have the material I was looking for to make them for me and I don't feel like running around to fabric stores looking for it now but she said if I buy the material she'll sew me whatever I want

Of course, when I was there she just happened to have two really nice (and thin and soft) overhead abayas that I fell in love with. The three I have are all kind of heavy and the sleeves are short so when I stretch my arm out they come up over my wrist and get stuck there. Also, they only come to just under my ankle and I've been saying I want something longer forever so these two she had just happened to be down to the ground and the sleeves are nice and long! Then she ended up giving me a pretty good deal to take both of them so I couldn't resist the temptation! I'm not really supposed to be spending my money right now!!
