Hey all, as I am getting ever so closer to going to pick up my fiancee, I had a troublesome thought. I had my Russian visa registered as per procedure, but as I went to leave Volgograd I did not have it with me. Well, we had it with us, but didn't know it. Anyway, I had to go to this little office, sign a form, then I was allowed to leave. I am now applying for my next visa, and is this going to come back and bite me in the butt? I am planning to go on 7/9.

I highly doubt it will be a problem. I never registered my visa (for a month) the first time I was in Russia (paid one 1000 rub fine when I tried to register it -- we don't do that at this office, blah blah). Wasn't an issue last summer (2000 rub fine this time though, for registering 2 hours late).

Isn't the signing of that "form" the same as "unregistering" your visa and recording your departure? If so, it appears you followed proper procedure.

I wouldn't sweat it. To my knowledge there's still no database on the Russian side for visas and registration of visas. There may be one somewhere but they don't run you through the computer or anything when you register your visa. Someone just collects some money from you and fills out a form that they submit to someone else somewhere down the road. For all we know the whole process could be a scam (and probably is at least in part).

Usually everything in Russia can be handled as russ said above, by paying a "fine."

There is too a database well sort of....
Its like the old card catalogs in the library(hmm I think I might be showing my age a bit. For those who dont know you used to go into the library and look up books in this big set of drawers and you had to find the book by title or author, no computers, nothing. and then of course the microfiche)
