Krikit
I have taken the liberty of cutting and pasting Laura's post from another thread, because I started thinking that having a thread for made-up words would be good for a laugh. Please share your made-up words and stories so we can all laugh at with you. biggrin.gif

I created a word today star_smile.gif
I was typing to Nick and I combined the word almost and already and came up with "Almoready"

I'm awesome blush.gif

Made-up words are the best! laughing.gif I have lots of them. I'm going to start using them on VJ. I've already used "breffrus". That's from when my cousin got drunk one night then tried to say "breakfast". "Churzburger" (cheeseburger) is another one. And I still say "eyebrowns" instead of eyebrows.... that came from my daughter when she was about 4. I'm sure I'll be back with some more. happy.gif

Do you play Balderdash? laughing.gif

There's a long story which I won't bore you with, but someone I know had to sell his boat. After that, anytime someone mentioned "boat" he would get upset so I started calling it "The B-Word." And that's why boats are called b-words in my family. laughing.gif
Nagishkaw
Krikit,

Nope, I don't even know what Balderdash is, believe it or not. But I think it is a " B " word, eh?

I hope Uno finds this thread. She's awesome with making up words and it makes complete sense somehow.

She just posted the other day that her avatar was "thickaliciously fyne". And I thought Charles wrote that. Uno could write a dictionary with her words.

Does anyone have a word for the residue on the rim of ketchup bottles?

A friend of mine was excellent at making up words (which was helpful when we wanted to swear -- we went to a Christian university and there were times when that was needed whistling.gif ), one of our favourites of hers was "q--frigging -- uoi" -- a mixture of quoi (french for "what") and frigging. Pronounced kuh-frigging-wah. used when more emphasis was needed than a plan old what. Bilingually delicious.

I have to laugh at my husband because he makes up words every day. He now knows my look because he'll say something, look at my face, then go "That's not a word, is it?" laughing.gif

The best words are made up by kids. I have a "stepson" (not a real stepson.... long story.... pretty much abandoned by his parents so I became the surrogate) whose two year old was staying with me once. My father dropped by one day for something and said he was just about to take my aunt and uncle to the airport. I said "Say goodbye for me." Then he left. My grandson turned to me and said "Nanny? Your daddy's name is Formy?" rofl.gif

When we came down here on our house-hunting trip (before he was relocated) we got a post office box for our mail. The guy put down "Feff" instead of "Jeff" on the form, so I've called him that ever since. laughing.gif

And then there's my husband's personal favorite - the mowerwhatzit - also known as the weed whacker.

I came up with breasticles one day. It's my female equivalent to the male balls. Instead of saying she's got balls it's she's got breasticles. Also means: Female strength. Often bigger than male balls. An obvious mixture of the words testicle and breast.

After I came up with that word a few years later a similar word was used in a movie I saw, "chesticles", in refering to a female in a similar way. I felt it was still too male.

Ah yes, Breasticles. We use that one a lot to.

And since I teach high school and it's not appropriate to shout out "F***" when I am really angry, I say "tchefuncte" which is the name of a river in Louisiana but has a great stress-relieving feeling.

I also like saying "du bist im gefangenschaft" to my students, which I suppose does sort of have a not-so-pleasant meaning ("you're in captivity" or something similar). In fact, ANYTHING said in German in just the right tone sounds angry. Even "ich liebe dich, Schatzi." smile.gif

Indeed you are correct. There's always also a little "southern" that comes out in me when I say it so I emphasize the "func" part of the word smile.gif

This isn't a made up word, but reading raymaga's post made me think of this: We always say "Kartoffelsalat" (in that weird tone people use with dogs) to our dog and she thinks it means "let's go to the dog park!" It really means "potato salad" but for some reason she thinks it means "dog park." Freaky animal, I tell you.
