Just sent out my N400 application to Nebraska today. Now I noticed by reading online that a passport is listed as a required document for the interview. Well, I don't have one. Here is my situation.

I applied and got my greencard when I was still a chinese citizen. Then afterwards, I got my Canadian citizenship. Since China does not allow dual citizenship, now my Chinese passport is not valid any more. Since then I tried to apply for Canadian passport once from US, and man that was painful. After about 4 months since I sent my application, I finally got my original package back due to the fact that my photo was not acceptable( and it was because I was smiling a little bit when I was not supposed to, whatever ). Anyway, long story short, i don't want to go through all those non-sense again if I don't absolutely need a Canadian passport for my N400 interview.

Here is what I have: a chinese passport(which is not valid any more) and a canadian Certification of Citizenship (with photo). Does anyone know if these are enough? If not, then I'd better start apply for my canadian passport soon since who knows this time what would happen and how long it would take.

Passport can be expired. But since you are officially a citizen of Canada, you should have a Canadian Passport.

Also US and Canada have no problems with Dual Citizenship, only China, so as far as USCIS is concerned, your Chinese passport should be fine, valid or not, and expired or not.

After naturalization you will be a US citizen, and Canada will still consider you a citizen of Canada too.

Does that mean you think my chinese passport should be fine for N400 purpose? That's what I am hoping

My wife almost tossed her old passport away, thank God I caught her, well it's expired? Not as far as the USCIS is concerned, they want to verify the number of times you left the country. Your old expired passport will be found, and be thankful you still have it.

Yes, it should be fine, if you have not traveled since becoming a US resident other than to perhaps visit Canada (Only Green-card is needed) then yes I believe only your Chinese passport with original visa stamp should be fine.
