Have someone send you some packets of Swiss Chalet sauce!
~Laura and Nick~
Nick *adores* Swiss Chalet.
It's tradition to get it at the airport before he leaves from his visits.
It's one thing I'm really going to miss too!!!

I found online a recipe for the sauce...maybe roast a nice chicken and make some sauce? smile.gif Enjoy!!!

3 C. water
1/4 C. tomato juice
1 chicken bouillon cube
1 1/2 t. paprika
1 t. sugar, granulated
3/4 t. salt
1/4 t. basil, dried
1/4 t. parsley
1/4 t. poultry seasoning
1/4 t. thyme
1/4 t. ginger, ground
1/4 t. dry mustard
1/4 t. onion powder
1 bay leaf
3/4 t. Worcestershire sauce
6 drops Tabasco sauce
2 t. lemon juice
1 T. cornstarch
1 T. water
1 T. vegetable oil

Anne's note: Swiss Chalet is a chain of Canadian chicken restaurants. This sauce is brushed on the chicken before cooking and served at the table in small containers to dip the chicken pieces in.

Pour cups of water and tomato juice into 1 1/2 qt saucepan. Add bouillon cube, paprika, sugar, salt, basil, parsley, poultry seasoning, thyme, ginger, mustard, onion powder, bay leaf, Worcestershire sauce and Tabasco. Stir well or whisk to mix. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer 5 minutes. Remove bay leaf. Stir in lemon juice.

Mix cornstarch and 1 Tbsp water to smooth paste. Add to mixture and cook, stirring constantly, about 2 minutes until sauce thickens. Whisk in oil.

Makes about 3 cups

WHOOOOOAAAA. NICE one, Laura! Thanks thanks thanks!!!!! *cuts and pastes*
*Marilyn*
as anybody tried that recipe?
~Laura and Nick~
I have not tried it Marilyn but people have said it's pretty darn close..it won an award in some challenge in Toronto last year or something.

This one lady I found on a forum said this:

"I tried the posted swiss chalet recipe and didn't like it so my mission was to perfect it and I think I did.
3 cups good chicken stock (Campbell's)
1/4 cup tomato juice
1/8 cup Worcestershire
1 tsp paprika
1.5 tsp thyme
1.5 tsp ground ginger
1/2 tsp dry mustard
1/2 tsp oregano
1/2 tsp poultry seasoning
1 tsp parsley
1 tsp sugar
4 drops Tabasco
simmer for 5 - 10 minutes
add 1/2 tsp lemon juice
mix 1 tsp of cornstarch with a little water ,add the thicken
1 bay leaf

tell me if you like it"

So...I guess all we can do is try it out and see how it is...

The fries ARE good. Though I did get some crappy fries AND chicken at one of the SC's in Burlington. Which was a real bummer because that's the one I took my hubby to after raving about the stuff. Murphy's Law and all. lol

Luckily, they sell skor bars in NJ...I'm lucky in that aspect!

Oh man, a sudden urge for Swiss Chalet is going to be hell!!

I'm totally bringing sauce packets with me.

I took my bf to Swiss Chalet and it wasn't that great that night and now he doesn't believe me that it's really good.

I feel like I've never seen Catalina salad dressing in the grocery store in NY. I need to investigate that the next time i go... That's my fave salad dressing.
*Marilyn*
I have seen Catalina dressing in the stores here in LA...

skor bars are actually not a uniquely Canadian thing... they were first introduced to the US in 1981 and then in 1983 they introduced them into the Canadian market...
