Has anyone been able to accompany their spouse for the interview? Do they let you inside the consulate with the person being interviewed? Please let me know if anyone has had that experience and how you did it. Thanks!

I believe this is optional. I have not seen any documentation where it says you have to accompany your spouse for the K3.

Its optional..

Also I did the same thing. Mailed to the Consulate about Daniel coming with me to the interview and this is what they wrote back -

Dear Parul:

This is in response to your inquiry regarding the K-1 visa application NWDxxxxxxxxxx.

Please note that for security reasons, as well as the very large number of applicants in the visa waiting room every day, only the applicants themselves can be permitted to enter as we have a limited space in the waiting room. Escorts are not generally allowed entry, unless it is to assist an applicant who is infirm because of age or a medical condition. Mr. Daniel Xxx Xxxx is a U.S. citizen, he is allowed to go to the (ACS) American Citizen Services by showing his American Passport in case he has any query but escorting an applicant at the time of interview is not allowed.

We hope this information is useful to you. However, please contact us in case of any clarification.

Sincerely,

Visa Information Unit

U. S. Embassy

New Delhi, India

But, when we went for the interview, they let him right in. Only checked his passport to make sure he was American.

Don't worry about them letting you in. Consulates and Embassies are American soil and citizens can't be stopped from entering

All the best for your interviews

USC is not needed to attend the interview. It is fair to say that USC is not allowed to attend the interview as well.

Unless you have a written permission the guards at the gate in Chennai consulate do not allow the USC inside just by showing the passport. Maybe in a case or two they may have allowed, but generally they do not allow.

US Passport holders are allowed to enter the consulate area where there are USC services provided, they are not necesarily allowed in the visa interview areas. Sure there are always exceptions, but if you want to accompany the spouse/fiance you better get a permission from the embassy folks prior to the interview.

I know of a case here on VJ where in New Delhi the USC was allowed to attend the interview with her fiance.
I also know of a case where in Chennai the USC was not allowed to attend the visa interview for his father, however he was later called by the officer for assistance for his father.
