Shanny
hi everyone.
i have applied for a k-3 visa and my husband just received the NOA for the I-129f with a receipt date of may 2, 2006.
i heard that getting a criminal record check may take some time.
is it okay for me to go ahead and get one now?
or do i have to wait until i get my packet telling me to do so?
what else can i be doing right now to prepare for packet 3?
i want to get a lot done right now so i am not hurrying to get the packet out.
thanks.

If he has never had a criminal record he just requires the background name check (canada wide) If he has had a crininal record he will require fingerprinting as well which does take time.
But the background name check doesnt take long at all, all depends where you are. Some do it in in minutes, others a few days, others a tad longer. Just call up your local RCMP detchament and find out how long it takes. If your inthe Toronto area, see the http://www.commissionaires.ca/ And some city polie forces can do it as well, BUT ensure it is done CANADA WIDE. I did mine in Kingston NS and it took 3 days and was free, others charge $$$. Best of luck
