Dear VisaJourney members,

My son has applied for a foreign citizenship, because my mother was born in a European country. We have all the required documents except for a CERTIFIED COPY of her naturalization certifcate. My mother was naturalized as a US citizen in the 1930's, but we do not know the exact date. Can anyone help us with information as to who to contact within the INS or outside it? There must be some record of her taking US citizenship. The INS website doesn't provide the information that we need. Please help us out, we would greatly appreciate any advice.

You can call the USCIS @ 1-800-375-5283 and ask them what steps your mother needs to take to get a copy of her Naturalization Certificate since she doesn't have the necessary information. She will most likely have to file an N-565 form and pay $380 to get it but it would all depend on how much information she has.

Thank you for posting a helpful reply, but I forgot to mention that my mother died 20 years ago. The N565 form does not seem appropriate in this case. Any other suggstions?
