Prayer of Praise
Praised be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, he who in his great mercy gave us new birth, a birth unto hope which draws its life from the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead; a birth to an imperishable inheritance, incapable of fading or defilement, which is kept in heaven for you who are guarded with God's power through faith; a birth to a salvation which stands ready to be revealed in the last days. For awhile i have been worrying on the life that awaits us once we get to the US.. how will my kids adjust... how can we live with only my husband to be working for us since EAD would still be months away.. there are so many "how's" playing in my mind and the e-devotional i received today was like a light in the midst of unecessary worries... indeed god will make a way as He has always done in my life.

Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life…
Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?

And why do you worry…?

So, do not worry…

Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow…

—Matthew 6: 25, 27, 28, 31, 34

When the pump emptied its last gulp into my gas tank, I should have braced myself for the impact. The price read $72.00 and I almost passed out. I felt like I'd been sucker-punched. I'd been putting off the trip to the gas station for far too long, telling myself that gas prices couldn't possibly stay this high for this long. So, I'd been putting in $10.00 on one trip and $15.00 on the next, never even filling the tank half-full. But this time, I had already driven for two days with the gas light on and the dashboard gauge resting comfortably, almost mockingly, on empty. So with paycheck in hand, I decided to fill the tank. Needless to say I'm thinking of alternate transportation.

With gas prices and other costs soaring, it is easy to worry. Questions begin to plague our minds like, "How am I going to get to work?" "What can I do to make ends meet?" "How creative can I be with my cooking to stretch our food supply a little longer?" This is really the first time in my life that I've ever had to ask questions like this and it has me seeking creative solutions. But ultimately it is reminding me to trust God.

On my morning run a few days ago, I passed a lake and happened to catch a poignant sight. A blue heron was fishing along the edge of the lake and had a small fish secured tightly in its beak. My mind went immediately to Matthew 6: 26: "Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your Heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?" I continued on my run a little more at ease. God really is in control. He really does love me and I really can trust Him no matter what the price at the pump.

Looking Past the Now

This devotional was written by Kelly McFadden

“Here is my servant whom I have chosen, the one I love, in whom I delight; I will put my Spirit on him, and he will proclaim justice to the nations. He will not quarrel or cry out; no one will hear his voice in the streets. A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out, till he leads justice to victory. In his name the nations will put their hope.”—Matthew 12:18 – 21

Life’s not fair. I’ve heard that phrase since I was a kid. Honestly, I don’t like it anymore now than I did then. Truth be told, the phrase is legitimate. Life, flat-out stinks some times. It’s not fair and it’s not easy.

A painful breakup, a lost loved one, a phone call reporting cancer, losing a job or not getting a promotion at work, difficulty with the kids, financial strain…you name it, we have all struggled. Life isn’t easy for any of us. In college, I watched two friends on the football team struggle with injuries. One of them had chronic problems with his feet, wincing in pain with each step he took. The other blew out both of his knees within a year of each other. The difference between them: one is a Christian and one was not. One had hope, and one did not. One knew that football was temporary and not his only identity, that his identity and hope was in Christ; the other did not.

As Christians, we can look past the now. God sent His Son, Jesus, as the Servant who, by His death and resurrection, makes all of the difference for us. It is He Who will bring justice and mercy. It is He Who is the hope of the world. What a gift we have in Jesus! Through Him, hope motivates us to store up treasure in heaven, not treasures on earth. Through Him, we have the promise that God works for the good of those who believe. (Romans 8:28) Through Him, we have the hope that this life – with all of its struggles – is just our temporary home before moving onto the glorious eternity with our Father in heaven.

I’ve never understood how nonbelievers make it through struggles without the hope God gives to those who love Him. It will always be hard when the bad news and difficult times come, but as a Christian, you can rely on heavenly hope. This is the hope that helps us look past the now and focus on treasures in heaven.

GOING DEEPER:
1. Think through what separates Christians from others. What does Matthew mean when he writes that, “In his name the nations will put their hope”?

2. Think through the struggles you have faced in your life. In what ways did you lean on the Lord? How did that help you through?

I find it interesting that despite the Scriptural challenges, even those including our Savior’s words that we ought not worry, many of us still find anxiety to be a daily companion. Still, we are in good company with our fellow believers over the centuries. The early Christian Fathers used what is called a “breathe prayer” to help those experiencing anxiety. We use it in our ministry today. It is simply this: As you inhale, say the words “Jesus Christ is Lord” to yourself, then, as you exhale say the words, “Lord, be my peace.” Repeat this pattern until you feel your anxiety lessen or go away completely.

Today, if you are feeling anxious, give this “breathe prayer” a try, and may God’s peace be with you.

When Peter took his eyes off Jesus on focused on the waves, he immediately began to sink.
Feelings of terror is often the result of misplaced vision.Keep our eyes on Jesus when doubt, fear, guilt and personal struggle threaten to overwhelm you. You'll never be disppointed!

Waves represent our struggle, problems in life if we'll focus on them they will just pull us down.Instead commit our lives to JESUS as He promised to us..He will never leave us nor forsake us!!He gives us peace of mind when trouble comes
