One of my friends from when I studied in London back in the early nineties (when I met my husband) was from Laxey. He has been to visit us since we moved to LA and I was wearing the IOM football jersey he gave me just yesterday.
It is a small world! The IOM has a football team?? When I lived there everyone either supported Man U or Liverpool.
They have a national side! At least that's what I was told. The IOM logo (the one with the 3 legs) is on it.
Back at college we all drove/took the ferry to France and they almost didn't let him in because the French authorities had never seen an IOM passport.

Sheffield, at least for the past seven years.

It's a lovely city. More than half the people who graduate from university here remain in the city because they like it so much, so there's quite a young demographic. I knew nothing about the city before moving here - my knowledge of English geography used to be shameful! I've since made more of an effort to become generally acquainted with places and names.
Yay for The Full Monty!
My memories of Sheffield?..... We almost ran down a bicyclist, then drove through a red light in front of a police officer. Very exciting.... but not in a good way.

Yay for Barnsley! My sister lives in Wakefield.... where I will be in 40 sleeps!

Haha no way! Oh, how things have changed. It has been 10 years since I left!
I used to have an IOM passport, and I had no problem getting anywhere. It's the same as a UK passport except with a different cover from what I can remember! The French authorities are obviously not "worldly" enough

Anna lives in North Yorkshire, not far from York-right down the road from Sarah's SN! She will be moving to South Carolina (talk about culture shock!)
She's a huge ManU fan-I'll have to show her what "real" football is like (she says American footballers are wooses because they have to wear helmets & pads).

I always countered that one...I mean, how many soccer players get hit by guys that are 6'5" and weigh over 300 lbs? I hardly call it wussy...it's intellegent!
However, as a former rugby player myself I can tell you they are all insane!

I have to say I agree with that one. Also with European football hard body contact is discouraged & the players can get penalized for it-but with American football it's the way the game is played. I have to laugh when there is a penalty kick (or maybe a free kick-I'm not sure which) the defenders line up in front of the goal & hold both hands over their...well let's say "private parts" for protection. Maybe pads/cups aren't such a bad idea after all!
I am beginning to like watching English football now that I understand a little about how the game is played. The legwork that some of those guys can do with the ball is pretty amazing. She is teaching me English football & I will teach her about American football & I'm sure we will enjoy watching both together. That's what it's all about!

I'm in Ayrshire, Scotland where it rains all the time, but the scenery is stunning. My beloved lives in Martin County, Florida, where I plan to join him at the beginning of September, as we're at the point of waiting for an interview date. Can't believe it'll have taken us a year to finally get to live as husband and wife.
