If you make an Info Pass appointment, they will be able to stamp your passport. Others on here haven't lost their letter because they never received it in the first place, but have been able to get the stamp.

Happen to us, we haven't been able to find it. We went and got a stamp from the infopass, unfortunately the lady would only give my wife a stamp for a 6 month extension, saying that the 10yr GC wouldn't take that long. Well about 11 months later still no card. Anyway we went and got another stamp this time they did it for a year. No real problems. But do go with your case number. Helps a lot.

Thank you all for your answer.... but I finally found it.... I had put it away in such a safe place that I forgot that I had put it there...

But now I know what to do if I misplace it again...

Scanners are cheap now and you must have a computer, scan your green card, passport, and one year extension and e-mail that to several friends just in case you misplace these on your trip, you won't come back without them. If something goes wrong, can have your friends fax those to your port of entry. Also a good idea to make up backup copies of all this important stuff. We had to bring the original I-797C extension along with us plus the expired green card to get back in. Found a plastic folder for all my wife's papers and a jacket with an inside large pocket with a zipper on it for carrying it because you also run into pick pocketers.

Yet another mess is to have to get half undressed in airline inspections with a crowd of people, but take the time to make sure you have everything before you leave. It's not easy, even the best of us tend to get brain dead after being treated like cattle for several hours.
