Hi all,

I'm based in Belfast and want to get to JFK to get the EAD when I enter on a K1. Therefore I'll have to fly to London to go to JFK to avoid the immigration in DUB as they don't stamp you with the EAD.

I've heard that the US immigration only stamp certain flights and at certain times of day so it might be possible to avoid them and do immigration at JFK.

Does anyone know if this is actually the case?

I am from Dublin and have travelled to the US via Dublin airport 4-5 times a year for the last few years; there was always immigration officers present at either Dublin or if you have a Shannon stop over, in Shannon, and nI've never done immigration in the USA. What you may have heard about is that they are usually only present from 2 hours before a flight, so you cannot do immigration really early, or you may have heard it wasn't being done in Dublin because the flight stopped over in Shannon.

Not all flights use the preclearance. The ones that don't are..

American Airlines to Chicago

Aer Lingus to Dulles

Aer Lingus to San Francisco

Aer Lingus to Orlando

Aer Lingus Flight 109 to JFK

Continental Airlines Flight 127 to Newark

US Airways to Philadelphia

Hope this helps,

wow, that's amazing Nicky - how do you know all that, and also do you know if all the flights leaving shannon have preclearance?

I don't know why but I'm paraniod about my CR-1 being processed in shannon. I keep thinking that the paperwork will get lost on it's way to the US and I'll be delayed getting my GC. I know it's stupid, but I'd be happier doing immigration stateside. star_smile.gif

Dublin Airport does not issue the temp. EAD because they're not set up to do it. That's what they told me when I asked them. However, that does not necessarily mean that you couldn't ask for your temp. EAD at JFK.

yep i have been told that people who go through immigration in dublin can still go through immigration in JFK to get the stamp . Most people dont try because they think they arent allowed. All you have to do is get back in the line and explain the situation.
