Hi…there, hope you guys can help!!
I have just received a notice last week. I went to check the case status online by putting the WAC no # but it is shown as error ----
Validation Error(s)
You must correct the following error(s) before proceeding:
Case Status Retrieval Failed
This Receipt Number cannot be found at this time in this automated system. Please check your case receipt number to see if it is correct. If you have questions or concerns about your case status, please contact the National Customer Service Center
I was wondering if my case is not activated as yet or something wrong with my case? How long it normally takes before I can check on my case status.
Thanks for your help, everyone!!!

You won't be able to check your case status online with the number listed on NOA.
Wait until your biometrics appt letter.. It will have diff case number & you'll be able to
check your status online with that number.
Hope this helps

I had the same thing but luckily someone here knew that you need to get the biometrics letter. It still doesn't make sense to me, but then most of what USCIS does makes little sense.

This is the answer. We got the 1st WAC# from back of check also - which is the NOA that extends the card validity. We were able to track the case by using the 2ndWAC# which is from the biometrics appt letter.

Sorry I'm a little slow...just to be clear...
So I shouldn't bother trying to decipher the fuzzy numbers on the back of the check since I won't be able to check case status online with that number anyway?
Why 2 different case numbers? Weird.

That also baffles me before. But....this is USCIS
When we got that biometrics appt letter, I checked the status using that case # & the information was there. Both came from CSC (WAC# case number)

They seem to have two applications in process - one is the I-751 that we file, but then their internal file number for it becomes a CR-189. I suspect that one of those numbers is related to the application we file and the other is related to the internal file number. USCIS officials an check updates on both of those numbers but it appears that the call center and we can only use the one associated with the biometrics. Heheheh, I hope you weren't expecting USCIS to actually make sense!

Our cases didn't actually show up until a couple of days after the bios were completed (not just when we got the bios appointment letter), so keep trying if they don't show up online beforehand.
