Maybe this is one of the many mysteries of USCIS but maybe someone will know. I was just wondering if anyone knew the actual working hours of the employees who process applications at USCIS. I've seen people on here saying they've gotten emails at 11pm Eastern time (my time zone) or even 5am in some cases. Does that mean there is actually a person sitting at a desk at that time approving things or is it just put into the system during regular 9 to 5 hours and automated later?

Thanks!

They work holidays and weekends too.

If you look at the line of people waiting for the VSC, you would think 35 - 40 hours a MONTH!!!! Jeez

If you haven't read the interview posted here on VJ by a former USCIS person, it explains a lot of things about how they work. Some work from home. Contractors work late hours. etc etc

Also I happened to read a document on the Dept of State website yesterday that reported numbers of visas approved. In the fiscal year 2007, there were 51,935 K visas approved. That's 1000 a week. The numbers we see here in VJ timelines is just a fraction of the petitions they approve.

CRIS computer system works 7 days a week, 24 hrs a day. Process batches of information including automated letters/e-mails at various times throughout the day and week.

Thanks to everyone for the replies. For someone like me who is only 5 days away from being outside the processing times it is so nervous about the CRIS sending notifications 24 hours a day because it means mine could be approved but it is sitting there waiting to be sent out with the automatic notification.

Oh well, only time will tell.
