Hi VJs,

It's been a long wait for us since the HCMC CON told us that the package 3 was sent out on 4/19/06. I notice that the date stamp (5-5-06) on the envelop was not even close. I guess those bastards who work there were F****** lazy to send it out, Waiting for bribe money may be! Any way my fiancee just returned the checklist and ds 230 p1 today.

Mike,

When you call the H/C office and if they give you a date when they send it out, expect at least 3 weeks for it to arrive at your fiancee hometown.

Good luck to you

First I want to say Congrats on finally receiving Packet 3. Thanks for giving me a heads up, so I don't worry it was lost. I just can't believe how in the US they can process things so much quicker. Mybae if they wouldn't blue slip everyone for more evidence, then they would not be so busy.

Good Luck in your Journey!!!

We like to believe no.

P.S. sweetliewynn:

It's not necessary to have a lawyer to pay a bribe.
We're supposed to navigate the law. Bribes are illegal.

The stories I hear in Saigon usally go like this:

1. For $--- someone (not working for the consulate but who is related to
or friends with someone working inside the consulate ) can speed up the processing.
If you don't pay this someone - your case will be stuck for years.

2. The consular officers just sign off on anything the Vietnamese employees
put in front of them. It's the Vietnamese clerks who are really making the
decisions at the consulate. Someone has a friend or a family member who has a friend
who works at the consulate. The friend will take care of everything. You just need
to pay $--- to someone who doesn't work at the consulate.

3. A certain VN lawyer is allowed to attend interviews and translate for beneficiaries.
If his or her name is on your paperwork - your case will sail through. To have his name
on your paperwork costs $----.

4. I've even heard that if you put $--- inside your passport, the translator or the
officer will pocket the money and approve your visa.

5. A certain travel agency will get your tourist visa approved. It has a relationship
with the consular officer. It pays him or her $---for every visa.
____________

Suckers pay their money and end up with nothing or worse than nothing.
I heard of one poor lady who believed number 4. Now she's inadmissible to the US
for life. Attempting to bribe or conspiring to bribe a Federal law enforcement officer
is a felony. 18 USC Ch.11 Sec. 201

Keep in mind that VisaJourney is a PUBLIC forum! I access VJ via the internet from Vietnam, and I would guess the folks at the US Consulate in HCMC have internet access too. I'm sure this board is a valuable feedback/information tool for them. I know in the past I read some posts (i.e. responding to myths, etc.) that other Vietnam VJ's on here suspected was a US Consular officer from HCMC.

Just be careful with references of bastards at the US Consulate in HCMC. These may be the same so-called bastards that your fiancee will meet when she goes for her interview. Granted they probably cannot specifically identify your fiancee from your posts on VJ, but I've always tried to live by the treat others as you would like to be treated motto - even if those others choose not to! Plus, more peaceful thoughts and actions will reduce the stress that already goes along with this process.

The important thing menyoo is that your fiancee got packet 3. Congratulations! Another thing to consider is that domestic mail in Vietnam isn't anything like mail service experienced in the United States. In addition, your packet 3 had to travel all the way to Can Tho.

Best of luck!

STL_HCMC,

I do aware of your advice. Of course, we all want this process done professionally and respectfully. However, I just don't agree with their (HCMC) method oversea. After all, they're all working for USC just like those in Washington DC. My Ref is not directly to those C/Os, but to those Vietnamese employees whose hired by C/Os which pays by tax payers. It does not matter anyway, USC can trash George Bush and nobody cares. Their jobs are to help and to assist the C/Os to communicate with Vietnamese beneficairies, not to insult those who need help. About bribry, no one knows for sure, but the fact is bribry always exist and is part of all public servants' culture, examples: at airport custom, traffic violation, (very common almost everyone withness these) and many others (hiden within the Vietnam society for decades.)

Any way, Thanks for you advice.
