Hi. I read about other people's experience when they had their medical. Apparently, the doctors check for previous suicide attempts. I have deep scars on my wrist that I inflicted way back when I was in college. I won't go into the details but I did attempt suicide several times because I was being molested by a relative and I saw no means of escape. Would it be grounds for not approving my visa or failing the medical? Thank you.

I would expect that you would have to have a Mental State Assessment that was a bit more intensive than others, to ensure you are not a current risk to yourself. Did you seek counselling support at any point? If you did, a letter from them to say you resolved those issues would be helpful. If it was a long time ago, I doubt it will affect anything and even so, peoples' lives change, they grow, learn and deal with things and move on.

hi pink. thanks for referring me to the link. it helped a lot. i guess the best course of action is to be honest about what i went through although i'm really not comfortable telling a complete stranger about it.
whisper2me, i never did undergo psychiatric evaluation except for guidance counseling way back during my college days. i guess i can contact my old guidance counselor. she was the one who put me on an anger management program after getting the results of the mandatory psychological evaluation but i never did finish it.

yes, it's one of the grounds for visa denial, however, you can be seen by their medical expert or a psychologist and prove them that you've gotten over your past and that you will never attempt to do it again so you won't be a threat to american people.

whisper2me: you're right. i have moved on with my life. and i can honestly say that i no longer harbor any bitterness whatsoever. i just hope they'd take my word for it.
