The news have been covering this for the past three days. This really sucks. I don't fly American myself, but it still sucks...

We don't either, planes are too small but the other airlines will follow so this is really bad news.

I am flying American Airline June 14th to Las Vegas and catching PAL to Manila to meet my fiance for Interview.
I will escape the fee by one day.
Bad thing is now all the people will be bringing carry ons filled to the brim.
This will cause a nightmare for loading passengers with so much bulky carry ons, and a stupid move by American Airlines.
Yes, I forsee the rest of the US carries following and soon having the same policy.

It's just ridiculous. I thought that the exorbitant fares that they charge already was supposed to cover this, but now they act like they've been doing us a favor all of these years by carrying our luggage. Will they refund the fee if they lose or misroute our luggage? I mean it is a service that we'd now be paying for, what kind of liability will they take to make up for an additional charge? It's not like their fares haven't been creeping up anyways, this is just an additional way to gouge travelers. It's really petty considering that most people are beginning to limit their travel because of the upsurge in travel costs, and the downturn in disposable income, so when you make a decision like this, it will turn travellers further from you.

hey there all,
i just called American to confirm my flight for july.international travelers are exempt from the extra charges and as per nornal policy they allow baggage weight limits of the international carrier.i am flying cathay, they allow 2 bags@ 70lbs each.so american wont charge any extra if i'm packing 140lbs or less.american might not like it but SCR-- THEM!! maybe i'll pack my pet bricks so they dont get lonely here at home without me,haha.

I love Cathay Pacific, too bad they weren't even close to the cheapest for my next jaunt to and from the Phiilippines.although both times I have flown with them, my flight was not supporting the American Airlines Advantage miles. I should have just signed up for the Marco Polo club.

really?this trip and my last they had the best prices.i got my july flight for 1400.of course i eat the miles but i worked it out and the numbers show that the discounted ticket is worth losing the miles.i know there are alot of wheeling-n-dealing on tickets.some times you get the bear&sometimes the bear gets you.i dont have a problem with 1400 for round trip from dallas-manila during high season.

I fly American most of the time for domestic flights, but this is ridiculous. That's like saying we'll take you there, but you will have to pay us if you want to get dressed when you get there. Who goes on vacation for a week and can live on one carry-on. They might as well have tacked on the $15 to the price of the ticket and left the baggage alone. It would have been much less of a public relations bomb then this idiotic baggage charge. I predict it will go away soon. No other carriers are going to follow it and American will lose from the backlash.

I generally use Southwest for my domestic flights. They're always the cheapest domestic flight for me anywhere I'm going.

I've read about more and more little charges being added to flight charges. I think this is just the beginning.

Next will be the gas for the planes.

We already do pay extra for fuel on the planes....the call it "fuel surcharge" when you purchase the ticket. Not sure all tickets have them and some airlines don't make it easy to see, but they are out there.
