Hi- I was just just reading the previous USCIS note about processing times. Why do you think there was such a surge in naturalization applications in 2007? They said July 07 was triple the 3 previous months and 2007 was double 2006!
Also, I am really wondering why it takes so long for some states to process. I live in a small not very populated state (and wouldn't think it is a very busy one either), yet the processing time listed is 14 months!! Is that right??
I would think that naturalization would be faster to process, either you're eligible or not. The decision isn't as subjective as for the I-751 or other applications that require more evidence. Why does it take so long? I'd love to know more about how things work at the service centers and local offices (I'm serious! it is very interesting!)

1 reason for the increased submission in July 07, was that as of July 31 2007, there was a fee increase!
I wanted another culvert on my property, but the city only pays for one, so I hired a private contractor. Came out with two guys, one driving a dump truck, the other an end loader, in the dump truck was crushed granite and the culvert. In less than 90 minutes these two guys leveled and installed the culvert, only blocked traffic for about a minute to dump the granite, sweep up the street and were gone.
Live in a new neighborhood with a empty lot next door, city installed that culvert, came out with three dump trucks, a ton of men, and an end loader way too large for the job, but the government only buys the best with our tax dollar. They put up road blocks with about eight guys standing around doing nothing. The guy in that huge end loader hit a tree far from the ditch and knocked it over. So while these guys were standing around all day, another crew had to come in to cut down that tree and haul it away, that killed the day, so the road blocks were left up until the next day, after another eight hours they finally got that culvert in, still don't know why they brought three dump trucks, the other two just sat there. But that is our government. Very strong union with city workers, and will retire at 75% pay at 55 years of age with full medical benefits. Also don't have to pay FICA taxes as they have their own retirement fund that doesn't screw them. No wonder why when there is an opening over 1,500 people apply for it. And the same with any state or federal job. They don't have to make a profit nor compete on a global market, just request more money for their budgets.
At Wal-Mart, only work 38 hours per week, no benefits whatsoever, no holidays, vacations, sick leave, no medical insurance, make a buck over minimum and have to work your can off.
If this has anything to do with why the USCIS is so slow, could well be the reason, average American only gets 8 paid holidays, feds get over 16 plus sick leave and extended vacation periods. When you deal with a private corporation with a couple of bucks in your pocket, they will break their backs to make sure you meet your deadlines, is their even such a thing a quotas or deadlines in the USCIS? Just judge that by your experiences.
In July of last year was a fee increase, supposingly by doubling the fees, the processing times would be decreased by 10%, Emilio, the guy put in charge, first claimed over 3 million N-400 applications, but over time that number somehow decreased to 0.6 million, he got canned by the way. The American Board of Immigration Attorneys did that for us. New guy only has been in a month now, but suppose to be working nights and weekends to catch up. That rush from last years was contributed to many that would apply for citizenship to avoid the new rate increases.
I certainly do not agree with the I-751 delays, no FBI checks, no investigations for your documents, that was already done on the first go around and with only 142,000 I-751's per year, does this really catch crooks? If you want to be a crook, just cross the border to come here like 20 million have done so far. And the N-400, just a repeat of the initial and I-751, learn a couple of basics and don't even have to memorized the oath, just repeat it sentence by sentence. Speak to an overpaid underworked officer, some are nice and really appreciate their benefits. But others are downright rude, there is no reason for that.
When my grandfather came here in the 19th century, his Ellis Island papers, I have them were all neatly hand printed, he attended night courses and was naturalized six weeks later, and millions were coming here at the time. Maybe the new computers are slowing things down, I don't know, maybe people are just lazy, but even with the marriage three year privilege, still taking about five years. Or maybe they should go back to the old hand printing way. My grandfather did not hand print that form, was just asked questions and the officer filled it out and signed it.

Hate, who said hate? Besides, this is my country and I love it, even willing to lay down my life for it. Are you happy with our leadership? Several last presidents broke many laws of our constitution and have gotten away with it, even anyone is going to go, it should be them. Besides a president, 10,000 other guys that helped him however so little win the election also go to Washington DC and get lush government job. Really no objection to that either, except most of them are incompetent.
Tess asked why processing times are so long, I gave reasons for that, do you disagree with any of those reasons? If you do, state your reasons, don't tell me to leave.
Regarding Chavez and Bush, know of a nice deserted island in the South Pacific I would like to put those two guys on, where they can be neighbors and live happily ever after. To date, Bush has broken over 600 laws of our constitution, that is documented, Chavez is a maniac. He is presently buying Russian WW II class submarines to attack us with, four of them as a matter of fact. Already purchased over 100,000 AK-47's that he is giving to 17 year old kids. Probably end up killing each other, that sucker kicks back.
