on a serious note though and i know i've thought about this alot as it matters to me that i put my pennys worth in and dont let Vito take all the slack.
Has anyone tried to work out what the total cost they think this proccess will end up as? I'm not just talking about the costs of papers filling and medical. I'm talking all of it including the period when the benificiary will be out of work, the tickets the train fare the lot.
its been weighing my mind a lot. cos i want to put my fair share to it at the very least, I'm just not sure i worked my figures out.

Jul 15 2008, 08:41 PM
I think it's going to vary person to person...but it depends on what costs you associate.
Basically, Sarah and I are setting for an estimated $3000-$4000 when it's all said and done as far as costs go. With her being out of work...well, we're getting a place that I could afford by myself to start out with, and once she's working we'll look at upgrading. I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out to be more. Because of that we discussed it, and are planning just a civil union thing to get married with, and focus on a larger wedding in England later. You factor in paper filings, medical, vaccinations, visa cost, courier cost, transportation costs, AOS costs....it adds up quickly.
Remember though, it's paid over time, so that helps out. I try to look at the costs for each section before thinking about the next. the hugest chunk will be the AOS cost, what's that at - $1100? Sarah's working like mad and throwing all she can possibly spare into savings. I'm putting at least $200 a month away into a savings account as well to help cover costs...
That's something I think a lot of people here don't realize about this process. Not only is it time consuming, it's financially consuming as well. However, this has taught us both to be more conscious of our money (both of us are horrible at it!) and prioritizing where we spend it. People I have told about this process think we just sign some papers and it's done. They are all surprised when I lay out the costs (and I usually am only telling them the filing costs, not all the pieces that go with it - i.e. transportation, medical, etc.).
But in the end, I look at it as we're doing this together, and once it's all said and done, when we get through this - we can get through anything! Hannah, I'd say do your best and try not to stress about it. It will all work out in the end!

Ive kept to a strict expenditure list where evry pound made goes towards paying off overdraft or saving for transport to london when i go for my interview, flight ect. And then theres the evry day living such as rent ect. It gets overhwelming sometimes cuz, for instance, this week i wouldve done 78hrs this week and none of it goes on me. i work so hard and wont even let myself go out for a few drinks cuz its going against my 'expenditure list' that i hvnt budgeted for. Least its made me an expert with money maganemnt.
Overall ive worked out, with transport to and from london, visa costs ect ive estimated just over £300 and then planning to take £1000 with me to usa and then £500 for flight. Anymore extra money i make then i just put it to saving for usa wen im outta work. Its gunna be weird wen im working over there and any money i do make i domt have to be strict with it. Been doing this for 2 years now saving for flights ect...its taking its toll but itll be worth it in the end

oh well at least every pound we make is worth double when we go to the usa

though i try not to think about that when thinking about myover draft

but on a brighter note i've broke over the half way part of it and in a few weeks hope to be three quarter ways done with it.
really £300 cca for visa? i was expecting it to be more than that . i know aos is around $1200 like jason said but i'm a bit hazey on that and what other bits its gunna cost. still not sure on what cost im gunna havre this end though

I'm hoping to leave here with £2500 in savings. I'm going to spend a little more to fly home via JFK to get my EAD stamp, just cause you never know what opportunities will come your way.
Even if I can only get a min wage job till I get my greencard, I want to be able to contribute.
But the overall cost for us will be around USD$6000 - $7000 flights, visa, app fees, medicals, vaccinations, phonecalls, insurance etc.

Where bouts u from hannah and vito? Im from Bristol
Im going to my hen night on saturday. The wedding isnt planned till jan (we might not be able to even do it then) but i thought it would be best to do it in the summer so all my friends can make it. I cant wait...its gunna be messy haha. Will have a drink or for this stress

Ps u think its worth flying via JFK for EAD? Do u def get it on arrival?

From every thread I've read here and on other forums the consensus appears to be definately at JFK only. For me it will be worth it should only add about USD$200 to my overall flight costs. And even at min wage it would be worth it.
What I said above is what it will have cost John and I total for K1. Remember I added in the flight costs, insurances and phone calls etc. Not just app fees, the medical etc.

is getting EAD worth it though? I thought it expires when you get married...so if you plan on getting married straight away it's not really worth it...or am i misunderstanding?
Hannah+Vito
Jul 17 2008, 11:23 AM
the general consensus is that jfk is the most likely to give but not the only one when it comes to the ead stamp how ever its not garenteed.so basically theres a chance you could spend extra to go through there and not get it in the end.
and i belive it does expire with your k1 visa or i-194 i'm not sure which, to behonest i thought they were the same thing and expired threrfore the same.
the discusions on the bord here also seem to think its pointless because of its short validity, u need the ssn number before you can work and that would take time off the 90 day validity and trying to get your new ead before the first expires is a chalange in a half. well thats seems to be what i'm reading on here. thats why i prob wont bother with it. and i'm certainly not gunna fork out and extra few hundred pounds for something i may not get.
cca i'm in kent vito is in los angeles
check my last topic i started in my profile. i asked about the costs beteen aos and petiton for visa and got a reply from someone who went through london recently.

I had my 1st HPV jab the other day. Got another 1 in a month. I printed out the list the the us requie for jabs and the nurse said they dont do 1 of tem (cant remeber what it was) so i guess gotta spend £80 at the medical examnation but ah well....least vaccinaions are on a roll!
Question, and this may have been answered previously, I just haven’t seen it. When you leave your job did you have to do any updates through CSC? I called to ask and as always they seem to give a short answer that doesn’t help much and that is, "We will contact you and ask for more information if we need it." Understandable but if the income changes then wouldn’t it have an effect on the case?
Not sure if you would know, just seems people on here are much more helpful than those through CSC.

I think it's the proof of meeting/relationship that gets me most anxious. I keep thinking of *new* things to add to the application, and then keeping scanning and sending Chris more documents and I'm all, "Check your e-mail! Print those documents! Life and death!" I feel really nervous that I'm not the one mailing it off to CSC because I've been reading up like crazy on the process and Chris really hasn't. I find all sorts of new things to worry about all the time.
You know what? I was too! Vito even had 130 pages of skype chat that he didn't know what to do with. But the others were really helpful and said that the petition is to establish that you have met within the last two years and at the interview is when you establish bonafide relationship. So in the end we sent photocopies of my tickets from the last trip, copies of some tickets for his train with my name on from said trip, I think he sent a reciept of his trip when we first met and photocopies of the stamps and picture pages of my passport. Then we sent some photos of us together and I think in the end he did sent a small selection of the chat but not too much. I must admit I did find other bits I wish we had sent but It was too late by time I found it. If they need more they can rfe us. Worrying just gives you an ulcer.
get him to sign up to here if you want him to read up more.
Yes, tell me about ulcers! Wow, the first month after I sent our I-129f out to CSC (May 29th) I kept thinking of this and that and even things I would need later in the process and I drove myself nuts. I have my moments when i feel like there is so much crap to wade through that it seems impossible that there will be a day I am with him again. Then I have my days where I think "Erika, why worry 99% get approved you need not worry." Then the sad days, the blah days and some happy ones thrown in between. Then........it starts all over again.....stress stress stress.
Happy day when we can all look back and think "why did I worry so much?" Instead, we will be upset about the socks on the floor or how he keeps leaving the toilet seat up or her annoying friend or how she talks on the phone during dinner....whatever.... I look forward to the day he is with me everyday and all the annoying and wondeful things that come with it.

So first I'm happy and then I get the guilts about being higher up when others are now on "Still waiting for NOA2 from CSC K-1 I-129F up to 3 months beyond the CSC processing time"
I really don't want to end up on that list.

I don't mind waiting a bit longer (for success that is, I have been tortured enough by the wait alone and not knowing), I just pray that I don't get a f-ing denial or RFE and provided enough info. Paranoid to hell about that.

I didn't give a mountain of evidence (we only took two pictures together, not realizing we probably would want more, plus few phone records, even though I can supply an absolute mountain of them, along with emails, and several things sent through DHL), that's for sure, but she did go through customs when she visited here (her one trip to the U.S. and only time seeing me) with the destination given as the hotel and address that I submitted to the USCIS, as evidence, showing my email confirmation as paying for the hotel room on my credit card with the same address info. We did hit 199, but then someone added to the list ahead of us.

looks like melanie and john will get their wish about breaking the 200 mark or very near as we are due huge jump.
just looked at the uscis website for the current processing times and dates and it has gone from 18th dec to 17th of jan.
igors has yet to update this though but it should soon so a huge jump is due.
though i'm sure its not so great for those that are pushed to outside processing times.

John and I are both keeping tabs. Although I do think he is developing more than just a little obsession.

I have spotted a flaw withthe estimated adjudication dates on our timelines. Amy and derek posted their petition the day before us. However while our noa1 is 1st may theirs is 27th may. Yet the estimate dates on their timeline are one day ahead of ours. That surly isn't right?

Yeah there's a lot of crazy stuff on Igor's. I think a few people fill in wrong dates (i did by mistake...I put the 27th but really it was the 28th..i know a whole day! hehe).
And Melanie...John's not that far, what would it take? a couple beers for that password?
at least we're seeing steady progress forward...that has to count for something. I think the USCIS should hire some of us obessers to help with their system

I wouldn't be too reliant upon the numbers to mean much. As it is, I'm sure most of us will see a handful of people get their NOA2s before us who filed well after. Just hoping I don't wait too long or get an RFE.

not on igors. ok i was looking on igors and i accidently (stupid i pod thingy) clicked on amy and derek and got transfered to their timeline on visa journey and they have a filling date of the 27th of may which you think would would b the only date that csc would care about. i doubt they give two hoots about the day they posted it then i looked at the bottom and their estimated two dates they ,aybe adjudicated by were one day ahead of mine and vitos dates on ours because they posted the day before us. but we have a noa1 of 26/7 days before them. therefore i am of the conclussion that those dates are calculated from postal date not noa1 and in addition i conclude as i would expect csc to be prossesing in noa1 date order that these date mean diddly squat

Hey Jason, if I truly had a password to break 200, I'd give it to you real quick. (200 for you would be 160-ish for me!!!!

) I think we'll make it next week at latest, approvals are coming in nicely tonight!!! The crazy part is that the screwy way CSC seems to work, you might see approval before us.
So we wait....not always patiently.
Good luck to everybody, and hopefully May approvals will be soon.

well we leaped up to 228! Not bad at all!
And John, I would not turn down an early approval, but I would be pleased if all of us were approved around the same time! The great thing about it, is we all should be going through the rest of the steps relatively at the same time...quite a comfort to know we're not truly alone in the process!
I'm still hoping Hannah and Sarah can get their interviews at the same time
