We have 5 trash cans, a trash compactor, and mulch box. Anything that can't go into the mulch box at the back of our garden or into the recycle cans we put into the trash compactor.
If you drop off your trash at the landfill or one of the landfill "dumping" stations instead of having trash pickup you pay per pound for your trash. Anything that you recycle you don't have to pay for.

My city recycles paper, corrugated cardboard, tin, aluminum, and plastic #1 and #2. They do recycle glass but you have to take it to them, they won't pick it up. They don't recycle regular cardboard (paperboard) like cereal boxes are made of, or other types of plastic.
We have trash pickup once a week and they pick up recycling at the same time. You have to set the recycling on the curb at least 6 feet from your trash can. You also have to provide your own recycling bin or bags, they don't provide bins.
Twice a year they do a green-waste (leaves, etc.) pickup but that's not nearly often enough--in spring and late summer/fall I could use a pickup every week.

We recycle here.
Every 2 weeks its picked up, we have a 90 gal container, that all the recycling goes into.
They will even pick up used motor oil as long as u have it in a properly marked container.

Mandatory recycling where I am for household and not for businesses, go figure. I recycle everything I can. It is picked up every other week, as well as lawn and garden trash picked up once a week.

I don't know how to answer, cuz I've always recycled (cans, bottles, plastic) in Brazil but I don't do it here. The city I lived in Brazil was all about recycling, it's the #1 echo friendly city in Brazil. In other places people too recycle. As for here, I asked and apparently americans don't do it.
I know Charles does batteries.

GODFREY - Students at Lewis and Clark Elementary School on Humbert Road have been busy recycling this school year, and local aluminum can collector Charley Kevilus, who was known to many for years as "Joey," was a big recipient of the drive.
Kevilus, who has cerebral palsy, supports himself by collecting cans in the Upper Alton area.
He attended an assembly at the school Tuesday to celebrate the students' efforts in recycling junk mail, magazines, soda tabs, shoes, clothing, glasses, milk jug lids and aluminum.

We recycle aluminum cans, newspapers, batteries and cardboard boxes. Our county does not do pick ups for these items so we usually save them up and take them to the county dump yard where they have different dumpsters for each type of recyclable trash.

Most places offer it, but it is usually not free or the law. We have to drag all of our stuff down to Kroger when we have to get rid of our 'recyclings'.

Yes on:
- glass bottles (peanut butter, pasta sauce)
- plastic containers (mostly milk jugs)
- plastic bags (eh, lots of these anyway, and stores have a bin to take them)
- paper (mostly junkmail)

Yes we are lucky enough to have a good recycling system where I live. Every other day they pick up glass, paper, newspapers, cardboard, some plastics, aluminium, etc.
I'm teaching my co-workers to recycle, we shread any important documents so they can be recycled as well.
Where we used to be we also had a compost, which was awesome, not only did it help us avoid a stinky trash can, but it also meant less trash in general. Hard to do right now where we are, but we plan to get something to do it again.
