Point of entry is TOMORROW!!!! kicking.gif kicking.gif kicking.gif kicking.gif kicking.gif kicking.gif kicking.gif kicking.gif kicking.gif kicking.gif

On the K-1 Flow Chart, Point of Entry is followed by applying for a SSN, which is then followed by getting married...which is fine...but I've been reading and it seems that the general consensus is that you should wait about 10 days to apply for an SSN, to make sure information gets into the system, and our wedding date is next week.

I'm kind of wondering...has anyone gotten their marriage license first, and THEN applied for an SSN?

Thanks....

Whether you'll be successful doing that will depend on your State's regulations. I would call the local marriage license office and explain your fiance has only a passport and never an SSN and ask if you can get a marriage license now?

Which State is it?

Thanks for the quick reply. I live in Michigan, maybe I'll give them a call in a few minutes.

I am also in Michigan, and I believe you should be fine with just your SSN. But if you do call please post the answer. I am 99% but I would ahte to be the guy that messed up your situation.

In most places you should be able to get your marriage license with your fiancée's passport as her ID. Many foreigners come to the US to get married and they don't all have a SS#.

We got the marriage license the day my husband got here and then we had to wait 3 days to get married. We applied for his SSN the day after we married. We just needed to have a certified copy of our marriage license (which we got before heading to the SS office) to show along with his passpport/visa to apply for the SSN.
