Hey VN VJ folks,

I would like your advises on my prepared list for folder #1. Particularly, I would like to know which items are needed to turn in at the window before the actual interview with CO. I know my case is CR1, but the required documents at the window should be very similar between K1 and CR1. I plan to keep these documents in one folder and in exact order for simplicity. Let me know if which item is out of order and/or which item should be put on different folders (I organize them into 5 categories). Please feel free to comment.

Evidence Organization for Interview at HCMC: (Make a full and exact copy for reference)

Appointment letter

Proof of payment for $70 AOS bill, $400 IV bill, and I-130

Five (5) Visa Photo

Everything you have listed is in the Packet 4 letter we got but here's the extra items you may or may not need:

DS156 electronic form filled out on the web (duplicate)
DS156K one copy for each person applying, ie one each for mother and children.
ID card (CMND) photocopy and original
Evidence of legal termination of any previous marriages
Quit claim for all children from their other parent giving permission for them to come to the US.
Foreign Police Certificates for person 16 years old and older from any country in which you resided for more than 6 months.
Court and Prison records if applicable
Military records if applicable

You may need the ID card with a CR1 but the instructions for DS156 & DS156K say they are for K visas so I don't know if you need those or not. The rest depend on your case, ie are there any children, etc.

I am in a process myself; waiting for the IV Bill to be generated. I notice that your case is the CR1. Isn't that you have to submit DS-230 to the NVC? I'm still very confused. When will your case be forwarded to C.O. in Vietnam? Is it when your AOS is approved by NVC? Do you have to send DS-230 to NVC as well? I have this impression because I read the CR1/IR1 flowchart in Visajourney.com

Thanks Peter. I'll make sure to put the CMND ID card and its photocophy in the folder #1 (already on my list). I double check the list and those extra items don't apply to my situation (no military, no kids, etc.) For us, we already filled out DS-230 for immigrant visa in place of DS-156 for non-immigrant visa. Anyway, I'll finalize other folders and post an update before the interview.

I assume you already complete (1) the DS-3032 Choice of Agent step. If not, email NVC right away. After that call them to get the Invoice Identification Number and pay both of (2) $70 AOS bill and (3) $400 IV bill online. It's the quickest and fastest way. After the bills have processed, print out your barcode cover sheets online. Then send in your (4) Affidavit of Support, I-864, and (5) Application for Immigrant Visa, DS-230, as soon as you confirm with NVC operator that they have been generated. After that, (6) your case will be completed at NVC soon after.

Since your case is currently at NVC. Go ahead and have the package for AOS and IV ready. It might take 3 weeks to obtain the police certificate. So, have all the required documents ready before NVC generates the form can save a lot of time. Here's what I've prepared for my case:

(1) Form I-864EZ, Affidavit of Support

• Coversheet with barcode
• Form I-864EZ
• 2007 Federal Tax Return and W2 (including Form 1099's)
• 2006 Tax Transcript
• 2005 Tax Transcript
• Employment letter
• Pay stubs from the most recent six months

(2) Form DS-230, Application for Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration

• Coversheet with barcode
• Form DS-230 Part I (with signature) and Part II
• Birth certificate of the beneficiary
  • Certified copy of birth certificate
  • Translation
  • Photocopies
• Marriage certificate
  • Original marriage certificate
  • Translation
  • Photocopies
• Police certificate of the beneficiary
  • Original police certificate
  • Translation
  • Photocopies
• Photocopy of valid passport biographic data page of the beneficiary
• Two 2x2 inches passport photographs of the beneficiary

Hi, please excuse the question but what do you mean by original copy of birth certificate and copy? (talking about petitioner). I may have a certified copy with the purple stamp on it in my files, still not sure, but I have no idea where to get an original. Thanks

Certified copy of BC will do it.

So far, I have submitted certified copies to USCIS/NVC. However, I plan on having the original BC of me and my wife at the interview. Of course, either the original or certified copy is fine. I also make copy of the document(s) since the consulate asks for them.

quick question. are they requiring translations now for documents submitted for interviews in HCMC?

In case my husband lost BC and I don't have time to re-apply in VN, what can I do if I can't give the BC to the consulate if they require?
Does anyone know how to write the relationship letter? I mean the structure, write to whom, list the dates from the begining of the relation till now or like to write a story ...
