I just got off the phone with NVC operator and we got our case number, it is BMB2008****, so that means we are getting Bombay consulate, but I do remember specifically typing Chennai consulate while filling i-130, wondering if consulates can be changed or not? Operator did talk with her supervisor and said how we should call after 10 to 15 days and they will review if there was any mistake or not.

It won’t be of much problem but still Chennai is a bit closer for me than Bombay.

Silent, it may not be a problem. The requirement is the applicant must appear at the consulate of the country where the marriage took place. However, if you can sort it out to Chennai, that'll be great since your consulate is that one.

Well I am from Port Blair, Andaman Islands, so naturally Chennai is closer to me. But I do realise, how it is for people from these islands; non-immigration visas are taken care by Calcutta consulate but since Calcutta doesn't processes IV visas, except Adoption cases, so they all transfers to Mumbai(according to VFS).

How should I go about changing consulate? Should I take the steps after paying AOS and IV bills and when both of them have been approved or what the procedure is? Or should I just leave it as it is, don't want anymore hassle really tongue.gif

No, I changed my profile today knowing how it will be Mumbai for me now.

But I do have my filled copies of i-130 and I rechecked those again today and its CHENNAI

Well I guess I will have to say hi to Mumbai now tongue.gif

If VFS says so, you shouldn't change the consulate. That might trigger additional "Administrative Processing" - 221(g).

I had similar issue back in 1996. But it was for non-immigrant visa (H1B). I went to Mumbai Consulate to stamp the visa and got 221(g) to go to Chennai U.S consulate devil.gif

Thanks lotto,
Don't want any additional hassles, already I am going through my panic attacks with the NVC process.

Just a quick question, I think I do know the answer but still going to recheck. A joint sponsor also fills up i-864 right? and not i-864a or something??

If joint sponsor is in the same household (same address) - I-864A. Otherwise use a second I-864.

Silent, Please refer I-864P, if you needed joint sponsor or not.

Also, whenever the petitioner (if U.S citizen) has change of address, file I-865
Beneficiary and the petitioner (if petitioner is Green Card holder) must both file AR-11 for any change of address.

God bless you star_smile.gif

Calling at 7:30am is not an option for me as I am on west coast, so that I would have to wake up at 4:30. So I am just going to keep trying to call them all day today and see If I go through and I have also sent an email to get the IIN number.

Also I am in no hurry to submit the AOS documents and as now only 2 things are holding me back the signed copy of DS-230 which was mailed to my wife this week and PCC, which can take upto 2 weeks to be issued in Surat, Gujarat so The earliest I can submit the DS-230 is first week of July.

I have more question for lotofpatience.. How long did take u get the pcc in India.

thanks a lot

Chintan, it depends on the location or the state in India.

For my wife, PCC from Passport Office took 1 day and from the Police Station took 2 or 3 days.

Chintan,

Just a suggestion, let your spouse from India call NVC at exact 5pm IST, may be try calling at 4:58pm and your spouse will sure get the line.

Well at least that's what I did today.

Dial the number +1-603- 334-0700 quickly press 1, that will give you the talks in english and then quickly press 5 that will get you to operator.

Let your spouse be ready with NVC case number, both petitioner's and beneficiary's Name, DOB and phone number.

Lotto about I-864P.

The thing is, my husband was jobless from 2005 to mid of 2007, but with whatever he worked in 2007, from Aug- Dec, he earned around 20k, he is continuing with the same job, so basically 2007's earning makes him above poverty line and our lawyer is saying that is enough and he doesn't need past 2 years of tax returns.

Though I have seen a few examples here in visajourney with cases similar to this, where the consular office has asked for additional joint sponsor, even if the primary petitioner is well above with the current year of income but didn't pay taxes the past years.

That's why I am a bit confused about what to do.

I just got talk to operator and they are saying the Online payment system is down and they did not give my the IIN. So I would have to call back and try again to get the IIN.

I just tried to ask for my IIN and operator said she can't provide me because they haven't even sent the package yet to my attorney, not sure if it makes any sense or not.

I guess I will wait for a week before that. I have applied for my PCC hopefully will get the police one by friday and the passport one by monday.

Chintan,

today my husband got his Passport PCC from Ahmedabad. He tried a lot to get that since, passport officials were not ready to give since we do not have appointment letter from the consulate.. but it is a different story now.. We finally got it..

My husband's home town is Porbandar.. He applied on Tuesday june 10th.. and they told it will take around 7 to 10 business days to do the process. Once the process is done.. they will call him and he has to go to the local police station for his signature and after around 1 week or so they will issue him a PCC from a local area.

We don't need his local PCC now (might need at the time of interview) since his passport was issued in January of 2008. And 6 months from the time of issue.. NVC just need passport office PCC.

Hope this helps..

For some part of Gujrat, PCC is exempted from police station. Check it out!

Chintan,

Answer to this question, i got from VJ members who are from our area of place.

Remember My huband applied at Ahmedabad Regional Passport Office.. At your place it might different.. I don't know..

My husband took the cover sheet of DS-230 (which you get after paying the IV fee bill of $400). Which mentions his name and states that send all the documents to address below (NVC address). Plus, the copies of receipt notice, approval notice, copy of my US passport (which i scanned to him). Also packet called Instructions for Immigrant visa processing. The link is

http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3190.html.

At the bottom of this page it says "Download the above NVC Appointment Processing immigrant visa instructions" Ask her to get print out of this packet.

Another from mumbai consulate website.. Ask her to take a print of the Instruction Packages (packet 3) the second bullet. In which in the Police report column- they explain into detail more of who needs the passport PCC.

I also e-mailed to mumbai consulate.. stating our postion of getting passport PCC.. and in reply they stated that once you submit the orginials to NVC than further will be done to get the appointment letter. (which i got after he was successful in applying)

These were the documents he took but the main was helpful his explaination to the PRO (public relations officer) and winning her confidence that without the passport PCC.. my case would not go fruther and i would not get appointment letter. My husband mentioned that most of the time the passport officials did not even see the documents which he brought.. They just ask for appointment letter.. that's it.. He replied.. He does not have it.. They replied.. Come back when you have it.. Took couple trips to the passport office and he got scuess.. star_smile.gif

Also have to fill up an application which you she can download from passport office website.. in this your place is surat.. http://passport.gov.in/surat.html and application form no 2. plus Rs.300 for the process and also 2 pictures (i believe 3x5) double check on that..

I hope this answers to your concern.. let me know.. if you have any more questions.. star_smile.gif

Good Luck good.gif

BAD NEWS! sad.gif

Neetu told me this morning that she got a letter from the US Consulate in Delhi stating that her interview, originally scheduled for July 9th, had been postponed to July 16th ... No reason is specified as per what she told me ... It just said that she is not to show up on the 9th and has to go on the 16th now ...

ONE MORE WEEK ADDED TO WHEN I CAN SEE MY JAAN! sad.gif

She's gonna call the embassy on Monday and see if this is all updated in their system (i.e., the new date) and whether there's a reason ... as to whether we can do anything about it, I doubt it ...

I called the NVC but they had the 9th on their info ... I think this is a unilateral change by the US Consulate in Delhi after the date was previously given....

What crappy luck, huh?
