We crossed the border several weeks ago and had no problem with immigration or customs. In fact, so little problem that now, when we are ready to register our car in North Dakota, we are told we have to have the import paper (that we should have got when we crossed the border) in order to register. We are travelling back to the nearest port to get the paper for the car in the next week or so.

Here is my question:

I have a US EPA sticker under the hood, but I do not have the US DOT sticker on the door. How do I get the letter from GM (2001 Sunfire) to indicate the car is certified in the US? I know I saw some stuff on this a way back, can anyone help me with information, phone number, something???

Thanks

Scott

Not sure if these are still current:

To obtain a manufacturer’s compliance letter, contact the appropriate representative;
(you’ll need the Vehicle Identification Number (V.I.N.) as a reference)
Ford:800-565-3673
GM:905-644-5843
Chrysler:800-333-0558 - Canada or
800-992-1997 - U.S.

I asked a similar question last week, and a few people said they contacted the manufacturer who redirected them to a local dealership. The dealership got the appropriate letter.

Hope this helps a little.

Some people haven't required the letter. They certainly didn't ask to see mine. I would go to the nearest POE and try importing it without one, first. You can go to this link to do a search on the closest port of entry to you. CBP - Locate a Port of Entry.

I agree with Krikit I went to my local CBP and didn't have the letter. They gave me 3 pieces of paper which I was going to need for the DMV.
