Hey guys,
I have a question. On the I-864 question 23 asked for the current annual income. What do they mean? Does this ask for the annual income my husband had in 2007 (which is way above the 125% poverty line)? Or does it ask for what my husband has earned so far in 2008 (thats below the 125% line)? I am at a loss here. Please help! Thanks so much!!!

And does it matter that my husband earned just below the 125% poverty line in 2005? Its only like $800.00? Will they asked for a joint sponsor because of that? Can we try filing the I-864 without a joint sponsor or will we have to look for a joint sponsor now? I think it would be no problem to find a joint sponsor but I don't really want to burden anybody else.

Nobody has any idea on this??? Help please!!! Thank you!

when my husband filled out the 1-864EZ, he put down his annual salary for this year, 2008. i think they want to know how much the USC's annual salary is for the current year to make sure that the current salary, whether earned already or not, is above the poverty guidelines. as for historical data, they will rely on the figures the USC puts down for the past 3 tax years but you only need to submit your tax returns for the latest tax year.

i don't know if they will require a joint sponsor just because the annual income was less than 125% in 2005. maybe you want to call the NVC and ask? or hopefully another member has had a similar experience.

good luck!

I agree with KTG... You want his salary for this year. Where "salary" is interpreted by most people as the GROSS YEARLY INCOME. Or in other words all the money he will make from January to December of 2008 at his current job.

One more thing... it shouldn't include bonuses... Bonuses are not salary, because you can't depend on them for next year.

So, this means that I can estimate what my husband's gross income will be this year, right? Because we don't know how much he will earn in total yet, as his pay per month is based on hourly payment. But that should work, right? Thank you for your help so far. Do you think it will hurt or help when I put in my minor savings that I have? Thanks!

Either an estimate of this year or last year's income is fine. I would tend to go with last year, in your situation.
Germanchick2502
Well they have the most recent tax return anyway. So, they know how much he's earned the last couple years. He will meet the poverty line requirements even with the estimate although his income will be lower than last year. Does this matter? And does it make sense to give them my savings if its less than $10,000.00? Thanks again!

If the sponsor qualifies using income alone, they can simply leave blank all sections regarding assets.

Germanchick2502
Yeah, but does it help or hurt if I add my savings anyway. I mean my husband meets the poverty line requirement but it shouldn't hurt if they have the additional information on my savings, right?
