I hope I am posting in the right forum blink.gif
My husband and I entered the UK 2 weeks ago. I am a British Citizen and he is an American Citizen. He is here for a holiday innocent.gif We are hoping to stay and I need advice please wacko.gif
I have to establish accommodation and get a job to prove I can support him without help, this I know. I am also aware we should have done thuis by applying for a visa but we didn't unsure.gif
Okay, now I have the problem of the following.
I want to establish a bank account but am having difficulties because I am staying with a friend and do not have paperwork other than my passport to prove who I am and my address. I need a bank account to get my pension paid into it.
The same applies getting accommodation, References eeek. We have enough to put down a deposit and survive until I find work, but no landlord wants to take the risk of me not having an employers reference so how do I get around this one.
I am sure there must be others that have gone through what we are going through now, how did they manage?
Any help, advice will be greatly appreciated PLEASE good.gif

Unless things have changed UK immigration policy does not allow you to change status while in the UK. So if he entered as a visitor he would not be granted a residence visa without leaving first.
