In Philippines, do you have to pass your NLE before you can take NCLEX ?

ChrisB0707
My fiancee ShaSha is a Filipino nurse and just completed a NCLEX class in Makati to help her with the test for the US. You can email her and she shoud be able to tell you. Her user ID in VJ is XhaXha. Just search the forum and you will see post that she has written and then send her a message. She will be coming to the US on May 16th

I assume she is applying at Nevada BON to get her Authorization To Test for NCLEX?

Did she ever sit for the local board exams in PI (NLE)?

Yes. One of the requirements is to submit your professional license in good standing with expiration date.

YES it's necessary,. It's one of the requirements,..

Before it's okey if you don't have a license from the PI,. and i had more than 5 friends who didn't take NLE and they were able to take NCLEX.... but now when you apply for NCLEX and if you're from the PHil, they will ask for your License from the PRC...

were you able to take the NLE?
tallcoolone
In USA you only need a 2 years Associates Degree from a US School (College / Community College) to sit for NCLEX to be a RN.

I wonder why the USA wants a graduate nurse from another country to have a Bachelors Degree in Nursing before they can sit for NCLEX?

I have PRC License already.,..

YES, but Nevada BON needs CES or Credentials Evaluation Services it's like CGFNS but there's no exam at all,. they need to review your school credentials and they asked for my License also .. mine just got approved and CES-CGFNS will mail the result of my credential report to Nevada BON,. when i get a mail from CES_CGFNS that's the time i could apply for NCLEX, i guess i will do everything when i reach there(USA), cuz the process is faster there...

I just finished my NCLEX review at KAPLAN Makati...

Education in the US is so different from the other countries like the Philippines,.. so i guess that's the reason why they need BSN which is 4 years before they can take NCLEX and will be able to work in US hospitals...

Same thing for Texas BON, regarding CES.

My fiance graduate March 2008 from Nursing School.

Her transcripts were sent to CGNFS to for CES (Creditial Evalution Service) last week.

I consider having her apply at another state where they didn't need a CES, and skip the CES process all together.

From my understanding if you take Kaplan review in USA and you don't pass the NCLEX, they will refund your money.

I wonder if i can do that also.. but anyway, mine just got approved and i have CGFNS ID number already,. all i need to do is wait for the mail from CES so i could apply for NCLEX... smile.gif

Hi xhaxha, am Zsa-zsa for my nickname.lol. I am done with credentials review, did you still register for pearsonvue for the eligibility? Just want to have an idea. I just posted this at allnurses.com.no replies yet. Am planning to just register in Ohio and take the NCLEX there. I am not sure yet what would be their requirements since each state varies.

Thanks.

My opinion is the USA needs all the nurses they can get, so they make it only a 2 year degree.

And the NCLEX is test designed to be passed.

You can usually take the NCLEX test a unlimited number in a 4 years time frame, until you pass in most states.

Arizona you can take the text an unlimited number of times till you pass, In texas you can take it as many times until you pass in a 4 year span.

Don't worry you will do fine and Pass the NCLEX on your first try.

I am planning to apply for NCLEX exam when i'm in the US already, cuz what i've heard it's process is faster there unlike here in the PI that will take you 3 to 6 months to get your eligibility and ATT before you can take the test....

Hi there!

Nevada Board of Nursing doesn't require local license (Phil. NLE) for her to sit for the NCLEX. She just need to enclosed a letter stating that she doesn't have plans to practice nursing in the Philippines.

I wish her luck on the exam! smile.gif

Associate Degrees in the Philippines cannot work as RNs but as LPNs in the States and there is no visa for it now, only EB3 for nurses. There is not much difference between ADN and BSN when it comes to job description in many hospitals. But a BSN gives you greater financial rewards and career flexibility in the long run. I think, US prefers a foreign grad to be a BSN coz of lower mortality rate in patients that were cared for by BSN,RNs.

This is just my 2 cents whistling.gif

Peace to the ADNs rose.gif

tallcoolone having the local license IS NOT a requirement in order for u to sit in for NCLEX.

but wen u work in the U.S. passing the NLE wud be somehow "like" a requirement cus theyl ask u for sure if passed or took the NLE..

passing the NLE, though its totally different from NCLEX, gives employers idea of..if u didnt pass ur local board, how can then u can pass the NCLEX especially that ur a foreign grad.

so if ur question asks if its a requirement for NLCEX - answer is NO (the request of photocopied license can be substituted by a diploma)

but if ul ask do you need to take local board and passed before working in the U.S. as a foreign nurse - YES, as some employers get that qualification from a foreign grad.

better check www.allnurses.com (NCLEX FORUM) - its like the "visa journey" for nurses
and the BON where ul apply for nclex.

I met two guys during my review in KAPLAN, they told me that they didn't get their eligibility yet, cuz they didn't include their license(photocopy) with their application because the result of the NLE wasn't released by the time they applied for NCLEX,. when they follow up the status of their application, they were told that they needed photocopy of their license so after they submitted it, weeks later they got their eligibility,. so that made me think that License is necessary,..
even if it's not really a requirement... ya know to be safe....

i guess CES-CGFNS won't ask for photocopy of your license if you fill-in in there application that you haven't taken any licensure exam yet.. it would be great good.gif if you took the NLE and passed, but NO-NO no0pb.gif if you took it and fail. to be safe, if some state in the US don't require NLE, then why take risk. kicking.gif

its ok if u find it wrong but im not saying this according to my knowledge but according to the whole application packet sent to me when i applied for NCLEX (CALIFORNIA) ..well maybe its only for california..

but yes, il stick to it tallcoolone...may i suggest to you to research for yourself, NCLEX infos are NOT complicating. sorry to say but just being honest, filipinos are making it like one.

i read one post here which is true....NLE is required FOR CGFNS.

no PI license = no cgfns&IELTS = no visa for nurses (u cant apply for that nurse visa without IELTS passing score even uv passed cg)

when ur ALREADY in the U.S. - TAKE THE NCLEX and get SSN! (no more, no less! applies to california and some other states, so better check ur state)

dont just stick to peoples advices, go research for yourself. u may find my suggestion opposite to them like what u said...but for ur own good..research for yourself..

know your state 1st,then check their requirement.. your state's requirement maybe different from the requirement of the states, where the people who gave u advices applied for nlcex.

trust ONLY the bon of your state

I think the process varies by state. It is still okey even if you dont have a license from PI in California for example.

Here's an excerpt from California nursing board (http://rn.ca.gov)

Submit a copy of your license or diploma that allows you to practice professional nursing in the country where you were educated. If you do not hold a license, a written explanation is required.

ALSo, NLE might be required by CGFNS but CGFNS is not required by the California board. Which makes the NLE a moot point

Actually tallcoone, shes is right. The reason for a lot of confusion is that most nurses that come to the US, come to the US on "work" visa. If you come to the US as a nurse on work visa, an NLE is required, but that requirement is not coming from the board of nurses. It is usually coming from US Immigration or the employer.

If a nurse comes to the US as a wife or soon to be wife of a US citizen, then that nurse is not coming under "work" visa isnt she. That nurse is not subject to that NLE required by Immigration. That nurse would just need to comply with her state's board of nursing and most state do not require NLE.

My wife just graduated a few months ago too and will be leaving the PI hopefully in June. As a result, she's not licensed and wont be in the Philippines. Pretty much in the same situation as you.

Luckily, NLE is not required.

Go to http://rn.ca.gov. This site has all the info you need.

If you have any questions regarding anything about nursing, a better forum is allnurses.com. There's a lot more resources there for this subject than here at VJ.

hi ammike! 1st of ll congratulations for the future wedding. ok, il try and get all of the ideas i got from random "credible" resources when i applied for my nclex-rn CALI.

1. go to www.rn.ca.gov (or was that ca.rn.gov) then download the application packet

2. go to your school and show them the requested papers by the cali bon for nclex-rn. (you'll see on the application paper whats needed to be filed by your school.) ideally, the papers that the cali bon wants from your school should be snail mailed BY YOUR SCHOOL,

but what happened to mine was, i went to my school registrar and showed them the request from cali bon, after a week i went back and they showed me an "unseal" envelope with papers that cali bon was asking, then i checked it 1st, then i gave it back to the school registrar. they sealed the envelope, addressed to cali bon, from my school and i was the one who shoot it on the mailbox!

i dont know if your school will do the same thing or they will be the one who will really go to the post office and mail the papers to cali bon.

3. on the same website, request for finger print card, it will be delivered in a couple of months (it depends)

4. go to NBI (i went to NBI quiapo) for finger printing. DONT YOU EVER LET YOUR FINGERPRINT CARD GET ANY WRINKLE OR FOLD! it has to be smooth perfect til it reach cali bon.

5. answer your application paper CORRECTLY. never leave a blank.

6. mail the application, fingerprint card, photocopy of your license OR diploma (if diploma, write a letter explaining why you dont have a copy of a license), application fee check/money order (refer to cali bon website how much) to cali bon address thats in the application paper.

7. wait for 4-6 mos for the eligibilty.

once eligibility is received:

1. go to pearsonvue website and register (you'll pay $200 plus registration fee via credit card, i forgot the exact amount) after registering through internet, you'll get a confirmation via email.

2. if youre ready to take the exam, get a schedule by calling pearsonvue. in here, you'll pay again $100 plus thru credit card, sorry i forgot again the exact amount. this means you have to ready your credit card. the person will ask some digits from the credit card.

take note: THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I DID when i applied for nclex-rn. ofcourse i was applying from the PI and it will be different from when u apply for it when youre in the u.s. there are also other ways in registering for pearsonvue, like snail mailing.... you can read it thru the NCLEX bulletin that will be sent to you with your eligibility.

its quite alot of work when u read it but thats nothing compare to the preparation for the exam wacko.gif

i secluded myself for almost half a year for my preparation..hhaaay grabe! feeling ko naging ermitanyanya na nga ako sa pag kulong ko sa kwarto kaka review! laughing.gif

2. go to your school and show them the requested papers by the cali bon for nclex-rn. (you'll see on the application paper whats needed to be filed by your school.) ideally, the papers that the cali bon wants from your school should be snail mailed BY YOUR SCHOOL,

but what happened to mine was, i went to my school registrar and showed them the request from cali bon, after a week i went back and they showed me an "unseal" envelope with papers that cali bon was asking, then i checked it 1st, then i gave it back to the school registrar. they sealed the envelope, addressed to cali bon, from my school and i was the one who shoot it on the mailbox!

i dont know if your school will do the same thing or they will be the one who will really go to the post office and mail the papers to cali bon.

thanks shes. This is very helpful to ammike and us. We will be following your steps ASAP.

I have a quick question on number 2. I cant seem to find the address on the application form where my wife's transcript should be addressed to. Do you happen to have that info? Many thanks.
