I just checked my NOA for AOS.. It states that the USCIS will accept a Driver's License as valid ID for Biometrics appointment but the DMV will not issue us a license, thats just how Government Agencies work....

DMV rules are State specific so not every DMV will refuse to issue a license to a K1 holder. I got mine in Massachusetts very easily and there are other States that will also issue them.

Some people are able to obtain a license, therefore it is listed as one of the options.

One is a state government agency and one is a Federal government agency. I would bet the DMV in other states would issue a driver's license.

That's just YOUR DMV

Can you go check with one of the neighboring states to get it? Their rules may be different?

Just an idea..

You cannot just go to another state to get a license simply because you do not qualify for one in your own state. There are usually residency requirements, etc. Your address must show, and it would be out of state.

Sorry that Dallas DMV is being so hard on you. Did you try contacting a state rep - sometimes they can cut through the state red tape. I hope you can get your neighbors/friends/family to help you out with grocery purchases and other errands till you get your EAD or greencard which would help getting your license. I would help with driving you around but I am in Colorado. (One of the ways to do is to ask your neighbors for help and offer to pay for the gas - I did this back in Michigan for a while when my car was broken down.) Jai Hanuman

What about an identification card?

It doesn't take much to get one.

And the state ID card would have your picture on it.

Yes,
Try to get a state ID my wife recieved one of those before her license. Take a look at the requirements at the DMV for a sate issued ID. Also apply for your SS when you get your EAD card

Texas DMV will require your EAD for a driver license. If you have a driver license from another country, you can drive on that as a "tourist".

state IDs usually have the same requirements as DLs -- at least they do for Oklahoma.

Thanks for all the advice. It just kind of took me by surprise that I cannot get a license even with our situation. I have got Military dependants ID and SSN too.

1) How long can I drive with an out-of-country driver license?

Generally, a person 18 to 75 years of age with a valid out-of-country driver license in their possession may drive a private, non-commercial motor vehicle in the State of Texas for up to one year from date of entry into the United States, if their home country has reciprocity with the U.S.

It's a year......How they will know when it's a year is a different matter whistling.gif

Thanks a bunch.. makes me feel a lot better now. The worst that can happen is getting a ticket... a lot better than no groceries and a sick dog that cannot be taken to the vet good.gif good.gif
